I noticed while looking at Arceus' base stats that because "defense" is a longer word than the other stats the bar next to it makes it look bigger than the number says. It's not a huge deal but I thought I should point it out.

Shiny variants
Was wondering if a photo of each shiny Pokemon can be added to the page alongside the photo of the Pokemon itself. I understand that it would be a massive project and would be happy to help, was going to ask before I even tried to add shiny photo. I know I have never known what a shiny Pokemon looked like playing Alpha sapphire and omega ruby and turned out I passed up many. :::If you mean you're having trouble finding the sprite section, it's at the bottom of the Pokémon's info page (see Bulbasaur's for example). As for official shiny artwork, there are only about 10 mons that have them (Gyarados for example), which should already be displayed on their page if applicable. == Ultra Pokedéx Order Update ==

Can I update the Alola dex number of the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon pokémon? I am willing to and think it would be better than having the old alola dex number in their page. What I ask for is a editor to create a new parameter like the "u2dex" that reference to B2W2, so, could some editor create a "ultradex" or something? Then I can change the 370 pokémon that need it.Trainer Ray (talk) 02:09, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I am also new here, and I currently have an updated version of a:File:PlayerCharactersGrouped.png (with the player characters from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (the ones codenamed Ray and Ailey) neatly added above the ones from Pokémon Sun and Moon (the ones codenamed Elio and Selene)), which I would like to upload. I am new here to Bulbapedia. == Pokemon SMD info update on individual species pages ==
Hello, I've been viewing Bulbapedia for quite a while without editing. It's been a long time since PSMD was released, but there have been no additions of info on the individual Pokemon pages (location, quotes etc.) as has been done with PMD Red/Blue. I am willing to add this information, since I have collected all Pokemon in this game. However I am unsure which format I should use and what precautions should I take when doing so. Thank you. Remiccino (talk) 07:20, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
:Hello, nice to meet another editor keen to contribute to the MD games on this site! Firstly, what kind of information do you plan on collecting? For example, for most characters, their locations are less relevant as they are connected to instead of being recruited, and the locations for most missions are semi-random. Pokémon no longer have quotes in dungeons (from memory), and recruitment rate, IQ, body size (beside normal vs Gigantic) no longer exist.
:Something that could be useful would be in regards to how to connect with them (currently the information is already on the Connection Orb page but would be useful on individual Pokémon pages as well) and having the new Pokémon portraits would also be useful (which another user is currently obtaining). (And if we look at Pinball example, there's really not much besides a portrait/image).
:However, you'll first need to make a new template for the SMD games much like this one https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Template:Spindata/MDTDS before starting. Feel free to have a go at making a template - just make sure it's in the Bulbapedia:Sandbox (or on your userspace, but you'll need to make more edits before you can access that function).
:Sorry there are a few hoops you'll need to go through, but I hope I haven't turned you off editing here :) Also, this was a bit rushed so I hope it makes a bit of sense--<span style="color:#AAAAFF">Wowy</span>(토크) 07:57, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
::Hello, thank you very much for the info! I want to add portraits, how to connect with the Pokemon, and quotes. Yes, every Pokemon still has at least 2 dungeon quotes (the chance to trigger a quote is dramatically decreased so most people just assume they don't exist anymore), and some more unique overworld quotes for specific ones. Also, there is the information of what level the Pokemon starts at, what moves the Pokemon has by default etc. (like a Trainer's Pokemon), although it would not be very useful.
::As for the portraits, I currently have all of them extracted from the game, and if possible, I would like to help the other user in uploading them too. Every Pokemon has at least 3 portraits (normal, happy, hurt) and I wonder if it's good to include all of them.
::I tried to create a template and it ended up looking like this:  https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Bulbapedia:Sandbox#Test_template_for_PSMD_data.
::Again, thank you for the detailed instructions! I have had editing experiences in other wikis, and have followed Bulbapedia since the old DPPt days, so I completely respect the code of conduct here. Hope to be contributing soon. :) Remiccino (talk) 09:47, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
:::Thanks for making a draft template, though I don't think it'll need the Pokémon's moves because I'm fairly sure they're random (and also not that relevant). I think their level may be fixed, but then again I'm not sure how important it is. Also, the template will need to be approved by staff first.
:::Do you have a Discord account? If not, would you be able to make one (you could even join the Bulbagarden server if you would like), and contact Lady Ariel#9665 on Discord. Lady Ariel (also a user here) has been the one doing most of the legwork for SMD here, so it would be good to get in contact (Lady Ariel will be offline atm though). ::::Thanks for the speedy reply. Yes, I have a Discord account (in fact I've been searching for the link to the server, haha) and I'll be sure to contact Lady Ariel! == Types of edits for auto-confirmation ==
Regarding the secret minimum amount of edits one must make in order to become auto-confirmed: do edits to talk pages (including this one) count towards this minimum, or must all of them be edits to article pages themselves (a.k.a. enyclopedic edits)? Because all edits I have done here that still stand today (that is, not reversed by an admin for whatever reason) are only talk-page edits, not article edits. If somebody is being sarcastic and unhelpful on a talk page, do we have the right to remove them from the talk? On the bug-catching contest, for Pokemon encounters post-national dex it says that the new pokemon only applies for thursday and saturday, and on tuesday the encounters are the same as pre-national dex encounters. this is wrong and i dont know the encounter rate and am new to bulbapedia so i cannot fix it. ( i know this is wrong because im playing on a tuesday and i have encountered several combee, wurmple etc. which are supposed to be exclusively for thursday and saturday contests).
If someone could fix this or show me how to fix it i would be most grateful :)

Issue with Sword and Shield Type Effectiveness Charts
So I created an account to try and help with this, but I'm not sure if I'm entirely right on it. I noticed that when you go to some of the new Sword and Shield Pokemon pages, the type effectiveness chart says at the top "Under normal circumstances in Generation VII..." but isn't Sword and Shield generation VIII? It says so everywhere else on the page, just in that blurb above the type effectiveness it has incorrect numbering. This is on multiple pages, I just happened to notice it on Cursola and SirFetch'd's page. Maybe there's someone who can go back and double check this for all sword and shield exclusive listings because how would a Pokemon be under battle conditions in a generation it didn't exist? I also am not able to edit that portion of the page so maybe a mod/admin can do it if it is incorrect. Silverx2624

EDIT: Seems someone saw this and it's been fixed (at least on the pages I looked at) thanks for being so swift mysterious person!

Pokémon pages with anime series sections
I've been discussing a bit with other admins the idea of listing anime series in the Pokémon species pages. For instance, editing Pikachu, Pichu, Dunsparce, etc. and adding sections for anime series such as "Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl" or "Pokémon the Series: Black & White".

Human characters (such as Ash and Gary) often have sections such as "Pokémon the Series: Black & White" and so on. I think they would be helpful for Pokémon species as well, to provide context as to where they appear and to let us know how much they appear in each series. For longer anime sections, they would also provide section links to edit them easier.

Each series such as "Pokémon the Series: Black & White" is a separate anime on its own right, so I think it would be a good idea to have separate sections for them.

If a Pokémon appears a lot in multiple series (such as Ash's Pikachu), it can be listed at the top of the anime section, outside all series sections.

The anime lists of "major" and "minor" appearances are often definitely a mess. This is the case especially with some popular Pokémon such as Pichu, that have a big wall of text in their major / minor appearances sections. Are these appearances major for the series as a whole, or just major for this episode in particular? Some examples of minor and major appearances appear to be definitely interchangeable. For instance, some cases where a Pokémon simply battles in the current episode - this type of situation has often been listed as either "major" or "minor".

There are a couple of examples in the link below. If there is any issue with the example texts, they can still change. This is just a general idea.

Dunsparce appears a little on several separate series, while several Pikachu appear in all the anime series. There are certainly all kinds of other situations as well. Newer Pokémon such as those from Galar and Alola may need only one anime series section at the moment.

::::I'm thinking the series sections would probably work for most of the movies. For instance, we can use the "Original series" section to say that Teddiursa appeared in M03 and M04. Human characters like Ash often have sections for anime series sections but nor for movies. That said, there is usually a separate section for the alternate universe movies (a single section including I Choose You! and its sequels). --Daniel Carrero (talk) 23:32, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Codifying: redirects
We're trying to get away from "unwritten rules", and I noticed a recent disagreement around redirects, which I realized is one thing our rules/policies don't explain. So we started talking a bit about it among staff, including the possibility of changing our past stance. I also wanted to get thoughts from the general editor base about redirects&mdash;because if everyone likes how it is, then maybe the status quo is fine (and we just codify it).

Our (unwritten) redirect policy has long been: don't link redirects, period (give or take a couple specific exceptions). For possibilities going forward, we can think of redirects in two types: redirects to pages, and redirects to sections.
* Redirects to pages could just make things easier. (Such as Ash instead of Ash Ketchum.) ...They could also just make things sloppier. (Red would be a bit of a problem.)
* Redirects to sections make creating a new page easy if it comes to it; they can simplify the process of editing old links if a page moves (if a lot of links to the page were through redirects to sections instead of direct links); and they can give you the ability to actually trace separate linked topics through What links here. ...I can't really think of any big cons for these type of redirects.

But I'd love to know what people think.

:I still personally prefer not creating redirect links. Direct links to sections are also very possible, so I don't see that as a hindrance. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 17:15, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
::The only instances where I personally feel redirects are appropriate are if they're hiding the capture or evolution of a recurring Pokémon, or, in the case of game movesets, links to moves that have had their name altered later on. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 17:32, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
:::Linking redirect links can have advantages over always using direct links (such as the one Tiddlywinks just mentioned, or the ones I mentioned here), so I'm definitely in favor of allowing them.
:::I can't see any big cons for redirects to sections either, and I also think redirects to pages are fine. (That's not to say everyone should just blindly link Red.) In particular, I'd like to have the option to use something like swarm (when I'm talking about Generation II), or the Masked Royal (when I'm talking about him), or tower summit (when I want to specify Eternatus' location), for example.) :::::That's a good point. A more broad use of redirect links could easily result in many links to disambiguation pages being created by accident. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 20:29, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
::::::(I didn't realize swarm was a disambig, I would want to link to the topic rather than a disambig, of course.) Nescientist (talk) 21:15, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
:::::::Dunno how much my input's worth here, but it seems to me that this issue isn't quite as simple as just "redirects versus direct links". From what I can gather, redirects can be more useful in some situations, whilst direct links can be more useful in others. Linking to a redirect is more useful if the target article is likely to change title at some point in the future; if said article is moved, only the redirect to it would need to be changed, as opposed to numerous direct links. If that's the case, shouldn't this discussion be had on a case-by-case basis? There are some redirects for which the target article's title is unlikely to ever change (i.e., misspellings, mis-capitalisations or foreign-language translations). == Editing the Pokken Tournament pages for each Pokemon ==

I have noticed the Pokken Tournament pages have a lot of missing information and have been trying to amend that however I am unsure if I have been doing so correctly. Is there anyway I can explain the changes and edits I make?
Additionally, I would like to add more in depth content about the details of moves for the Pokken Pokemon regarding their in-game properties, frame data, and screenshots. Is this something which would be allowed?
SurfingSanta (talk) 07:04, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
:You seem to have used edit summaries already, which is the most immediate thing for explaining edits.
:Additionally, there's obviously talk pages (including hub talk pages like this one) where I've often put explanations that won't fit into edit summaries, and/or should be documented more "publicly".
:Talk pages are also a good start asking for other opinions. Before doing rather major or potentially controversial changes, I've often proposed changes at talk pages (in your case let's say it'll be Talk:Pokkén Tournament), as so others have a chance to agree or oppose, or suggest improvements to my idea. You can also consult appropriate staff members directly, especially if it's really major and should be approved beforehand. == Suggestion: "Locations" section on episode and chapter pages. ==

Hi, I would like to ask, what exactly is Bulbapedia's position by adding a section to "Locations"? I mean, a part where you put the places mentioned or shown in each episode or manga chapter.
Something similar to what's on these wikis here.
*https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/New_World_Order
*https://shokugekinosoma.fandom.com/wiki/Episode_1:_The_Endless_Wilderness
*https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/The_Mysterious_Warrior_From_Space
I mean, here are pages for pretty much everywhere that appeared in the anime, but the only way we can access the location page is if we look specifically for it. What if, for example, we put a section as soon as it came after the character listing?
Like, the JN049 episode.

Locations

Vermilion City
* Cerise Laboratory
* Eevee Evolution Lab
* Vermilion City school

Or JN050

Kanto

Vermilion City
* Cerise Laboratory
Galar

*Wild Area

This could make it easier for us to find these pages without needing to know they exist. It doesn't have to exactly follow this model, but it added some important details. --Hikaru Wazana (talk) 11:50, 07 November 2021 (UTC)
:I'm personally a big fan of this. It was pointed out to me that manga chapters actually do note locations, but in the infobox. == Pokémon rivalries ==

I'd like to create a page called Pokémon rivalries but I don't have the permission to.
Its purpose is to expand on the belligerent behaviour of certain Pokémon against other species, whether it is for food, territory, or simply sheer hate.

It is partially covered by Pokémon Food, but it misses many non-food related connections (also Heracross-Pinsir outside Alola).
Some examples that come to my mind:
* Tyranitar-Duraludon
* Seviper-Zangoose
* Groundon-Kyogre
What else could it include:
* the existing food-related list
* dichotomies like Cresselia-Darkray
* Pokémon known to compete against their own species (eg. Pokémon with Rivarly ability)
* trivia like Nidorino-Gengar's storic feud

Repeat information precedence
I had some (what I thought) pretty beneficial information removed shortly after my first edit, and the reasoning made no sense when there is repeat information with far less value all over the site.

The information I added was about the Machop trade in Goldenrod City's Department Store. I added in the trade on the "Goldenrod City" page under the "Pokemon" section and it was removed, understandable as the Department Store has it's own dedicated page, unlike other trades done in homes (no individual page) in other cities. What confuses me is how such a beneficial trade (Miltank is tough, and plenty of folks didn't know about the Machop trade back in the day) would be removed from the "Goldenrod Department Store" section because it "Belongs at the Goldenrod Department Store article, which it's already there", while, for example, "A team of workers and a Machoke are moving boxes around. People get told off by the worker for going down and distracting them." is listed in that same section AND on the "Goldenrod Department Store" page.

I don't care that my edits were removed, but it seems odd that random NPC fluff is fine, but largely beneficial information about playing the game isn't. Just looking for clarification so that in the future, my edits can be of higher quality. --Ravenousjoe (talk) 04:31, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
