Pokémon world locations

Black Tower (Japanese: 黒の摩天楼 Black Skyscraper) is a battle arena initially exclusive to Pokémon Black 2. Located within Black City, it is the counterpart to the White Treehollow of Pokémon White 2.

It can be accessed after Black Tower is unlocked with the Unova Link's Key System. If a Black 2 player clears Area 5 of the Black Tower, that player can send the Tower Key to White 2 players, granting them access to Black City, and consequently, the Black Tower.

The interior of the Black Tower

The Black Tower was established in Black City between the events of Pokémon Black and Pokémon Black 2. The player cannot challenge it until he or she has defeated Alder in Floccesy Town after defeating the Elite Four and Champion.

It comprises ten randomly generated, progressively more complex areas, each with a number of Trainers. Each area contains a Gate Trainer and a Boss Trainer. To unlock the next area, the player must first defeat the Gate Trainer, who will unlock the Boss Trainer's room. Other Trainers in each area may also be challenged. A Doctor on each floor will heal the player's Pokémon after being defeated in battle, but only once. Unlike in most battle facilities, the player will earn experience and money for winning battles, but will forfeit the money earned during the challenge if the player loses or forfeits. The player is also able to save the game and access all parts of the menu except for the bag, which can still be accessed when a held item is given to a party member. The C-Gear is usable here; however, registered items and menus cannot be accessed via the Y menu.

The Trainers in each area have a randomly selected team of two Pokémon from a personalized pool of about nine Pokémon. The Boss Trainer of each area has three Pokémon, which are fixed for each battle. The levels increase as the player progresses through the areas, beginning at level 40 and ending at level 77 in Normal Mode. The Boss Trainers' Pokémon have higher levels than those of other Trainers in the area, and they will be holding in-battle effect items such as Black Sludge, Life Orbs, or elemental Gems. The regular Trainers' Pokémon may hold Berries.

Starting from Area 6, the areas will be separated into different floors, which the player has to explore in order to find the Gate Trainer and/or the Boss Trainer. Each floor has its own set of rooms, Trainers, and Doctors.

Trainers

Reason: Areas 3-10 need a full list of trainers.

The Boss Trainers always use the same set of three Pokémon. Upon visiting Area 10's Boss Trainer chamber for the first time on either Black Tower or White Treehollow, the player will face Benga in battle. Each Trainer has Pokémon with three levels more and $600 more than previous Trainer in area order. In White Version 2, the player will face Janna instead of Benga in Area 10 in subsequent visits.

Trivia

  • With exception of Benga, each Boss Trainer's first letter in their name is based on the alphabetical order in each numbered area. In the Japanese version, their first letter is based on the katakana in vowel "a" column order instead.
