Battle Bond (Japanese: きずなへんげ Bond Transformation) is an event-exclusive Ability introduced in Generation VII. It is the signature Ability of Greninja.

Reason: Is Water Shuriken's power increment a continuous effect of this ability or an inherent, independent function of Ash-Greninja? Would it be lost if a Pokémon with its Ability suppressed transforms into Ash-Greninja? Does Ability Capsule work on this ability?

In battle

After a Greninja with this Ability causes an opponent to faint, it will change form into Ash-Greninja. When a Greninja in this form uses Water Shuriken, the move's base power is raised from 15 to 20 and it always hits three times. Multiple Greninja can activate this Ability during the same battle.

If Ash-Greninja faints in battle, it will revert back to its original form. Battle Bond will no longer activate, even if Greninja is revived and defeats another Pokémon in battle.

After the battle, the Pokémon reverts to its original form.

Role Play, Gastro Acid, Worry Seed, Simple Beam, and Entrainment fail if the target has the Ability Battle Bond. Role Play fails if the user has the Ability Battle Bond. Skill Swap fails if either Pokémon has Battle Bond. Battle Bond cannot be copied by Trace, Power of Alchemy, or Receiver. Battle Bond cannot be replaced by Mummy or suppressed by Core Enforcer. If a Pokémon other than Greninja obtains Battle Bond with Imposter or Transform, the Pokémon will not turn into Ash-Greninja. If a Pokémon transforms into Ash-Greninja through Imposter or Transform, the Battle Bond ability will not affect the transformed Pokémon's use of Water Shuriken.

Outside of battle

Greninja with this Ability cannot breed.
