Scraggy wakes up and looks at Cottonee, while Cottonee looks back. Ash scans it on the Pokedex while {{an|Cilan}} remarks that it's strange to see a Cottonee alone at this time of year, as this is the season where all Cottonee come together and start a life together. Iris says that it's quite romantic, but, as she was eating an apple, Cilan says that it's not quite romantic when the mouth is full. As usual, Scraggy tries to attack Cottonee, however Cottonee uses {{m|Cotton Spore}} which distracts Scraggy. Suddenly another Cottonee comes up, and the Cottonee that was sitting on Scraggy's head looks up, looking at that Cottonee admiringly. | |||
Suddenly, Cottonee goes up to the other Cottonee and begins to talk, while Cilan exclaims it's "heart to heart time". However Cottonee does not return the feelings and attacks it. It wasn't until another Razor Leaf, however that Cottonee began to guard itself with {{m|Cotton Guard}} and begins to attack the Cottonee it loves, using Razor Leaf, which the Cottonee easily dodges, and then following up with an Energy Ball, which missed completely. Cilan says that the other Cottonee was testing this Cottonee in order to see if it was worthy, however this Cottonee did not exceed expectations and the other Cottonee left, leaving the Cottonee heartbroken. | |||

Cilan is shown putting a bandage upon the Cottonee's bruise, and Cottonee gets very grateful. In the meantime, Ash decides to help it out, to see if they can make Cottonee's battling style better. Ash tries to return Scraggy, though Scraggy gets angry, exclaiming it wants to help out Cottonee. So, Ash decides Scraggy should be the one to battle Cottonee. | |||
The practice battle begins. Ash calls for a {{m|Leer}} which Scraggy follows and leers intimidatingly at Cottonee. Cottonee, frightened, sweats and runs, going behind a tree stump. Ash is very supportive and tells Cottonee that it can't run away--it has to dodge or protect itself. Cottonee returns to the battlefield as Scraggy uses Headbutt, which, though Cottonee tried to dodge, failed and got hit and nearly knocked out. Ash then gives it tips on how to dodge, saying that you need to watch your opponent closely and dodge when the moment comes. They try, though Cottonee stares at Scraggy, gets hit by the Headbutt, but the second time around Cottonee guarded itself with Cotton Guard. | |||
Iris then helps Cottonee works on its aim, saying you need to focus your mind on the target, and Axew is willing to help the Cottonee out. They have their target be the tree stump Cottonee had hid behind earlier, and Iris tells Axew to use Dragon Rage. Axew charge sup, and then releases all the power, hitting the tree stump perfectly as well as making it explode and break. Axew gets very happy and puts a small stone on top of the stump to be Cottonee's target. Cottonee focuses all of its attention on the rock, using Energy Ball, which misses. Iris encourages it to try again, and uses Energy Ball, which hits the rock. | |||
Cottonee then has practice battles with all of them. Ash uses Scraggy, who gets severely hurt in the battle. Iris's Axew laid some damage on it, however it resulted in a draw. Cilan is then the last opponent, using {{TP|Cilan|Dwebble|Dwebble}}. Cilan orders a {{m|Slash}} while Ash, acting as Cottonee's trainer, tells Cottonee to dodge, and Cottonee dodges all of them repeated Slashes. Cilan then calls for an {{m|X-Scissor}} which Cottonee dodges and Ash orders a Razor Leaf, which hits Dwebble hard. Cilan then sends out {{TP|Cilan|Pansage|Pansage}}, and the battle continues. | |||

Ash returns Tranquill as they marvel over how they are going to look for the Cottonee--Cilan them comes up with an idea; Cottonee can't fly by themselves, they have to ride the wind. Iris then says they'll have to sense the wind's movements, which she confirms are going south. The trio then heads south in the hopes of finding the Cottonee. | |||
Later, the path of the wind then changes, according to Iris, which is northwest. They all head northwest, which makes them head into Rainbow Valley. There are hundreds of Cottonee around, flying, looking for a partner. Cottonee then spots the Cottonee it had been looking for, and attempts to talk to it, while Iris remarks it's romantic once more, with her mouth full. However, when Cottonee talks, a sudden gust of wind blows, wrapping them up in a huge bag. Ash gets upset, and they look for who did it, and sees the bag full, and sees Team Rocket as well. Iris gets upset that they ruined the moment, but Team Rocket performs their [[Team Rocket mottos|motto]]. | |||
Ash is very upset, and tries to stop them, but Team Rocket mocks him. While they continue to argue, the bag containing the Cottonee begins to bulge...and then, the Cottonee break out! Team Rocket is surprised, but the trio is very happy. All of the Cottonee use Cotton Spore, which covers Team Rocket's faces, making them unable to see. Because of this, the car carrying the bag begins to go out of control, and they crash into a tree, and they go on their jetpacks, claiming revenge. | |||
Now that Team Rocket is gone, Cottonee is free to tell its feelings for Cottonee. Just when Cottonee starts, two other Cottonee take this Cottonee away, and begin to battle it. They start off the battle with a Razor Leaf simultaneously, which this Cottonee avoids by using Cotton Guard, and the Cottonee it had been talking to and the trio watches on. Then, they both using Energy Ball, which Cottonee easily dodges. The Cottonee watching looks at this Cottonee admiringly. Then, the interrupted Cottonee uses Razor Leaf, which hits the two Cottonee, and then Energy Ball, which explodes on impact. The two Cottonee are now knocked out, with Ash very proud. | |||
Cottonee goes back to the Cottonee watching, to explain its feelings without being interrupted. The Cottonee accepts and they begin holding hands and blow away. Later, they go where the Diamond Wind is blowing, as they see all of the land sparkle--Cilan says it's because the place is full of minerals. As they are enjoying the view, Iris suddenly notes that the sun is rising, and the Cottonee blow with the Diamond Wind. The trio is mesmerized. Suddenly, the Cottonee Ash has taken care of bids them goodbye, and the trio continue on their journey. | |||
