In 10,000,000 Reasons to Fight!, while Lillie managed to get through to her mother with a speech, the Nihilego refused to let go. After Ash's Electrium Z temporarily transformed into a Pikashunium Z, Ash and Pikachu used it to launch a 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt. The attack defeated Nihilego, weakening it long enough for Lillie and Gladion to pull their mother free from its hold. The Pikashunium Z reverted to an Electrium Z. With their mission finished, Lusamine was taken back through the Ultra Wormhole to the Altar of the Sunne.

With their mission finished, Lusamine was taken back through the Ultra Wormhole to the Altar of the Sunne.
In The Professors' New Adventure!, following their adventures in the Ultra Space, Professor Kukui proposed to Professor Burnet, with the latter accepting. When Ash hears about it and learns they weren't planning on having a wedding, Ash, his friends and all their closest acquaintances' in Alola hold a surprise wedding for the two, with Ash acting as the ring bearer. During the reception, Lusamine approached Ash and his friends, explaining how the recent incident made the appearance of Ultra Wormhole's, (and as such, Ultra Beasts) appearing, will rise. She then asks them to form as Ultra Beast response team under the Aether Foundation, known as the Ultra Guardians, which the group happily accepts.
In SM061, the group faces their first mission as Ultra Guardians, sending a wayward Buzzwole back home.
In SM063, Ash befriends the islands Passimian team, helping them beat an invading team from another island in a game.
In SM064, Ash meets Ilima, a Pokémon School graduate, after hearing some of the 'legends'. He then challenged Ilima to a battle after learning he possessed an Eevium Z, though it was interrupted by Team Skull, who ended up experiencing the power of Eevee's Extreme Evoboost. In the following episode, Ilima left to Kalos, but not before letting Ash and his friends experience Poké Ping Pong.
In SM067 Ash encounters a Poipole who seems strangely attached to Pikachu. After a small incident in which, Pikachu went missing, Rowlet was poisoned and Team Rocket appearing (and consequently disappearing), Poipole was confirmed to be an Ultra Beast. Ash was permitted to capture it, though failed several times as Poipole thought the catching process was a game. After making it understand, Poipole allowed itself to be captured, and was allowed to stay with the group till they could find its Ultra Wormhole and send it back.
In SM069, after Sophocles discovered a Celesteela which was buried on Bamboo Hill for the past 200 years, he enlisted Ash's and the others help to dig it out. When they realised that it was an Ultra Beast and that it was preparing for take-off, which would most likely cause massive damage to the environment, their activities turned into an Ultra Guardian mission. When they failed to capture it, they instead attempted to let it take-off, though first taking some anti-fire methods, for safety's sake. Even though Team Rocket attempted to interfere, Celesteela managed to take-off without damaging the hill.
In SM073 Ash heads for Ula'ula Island for his island challenge.
