Gary Oak has an Arcanine. The first time it was seen was in EP063.

Arcanine and its pre-evolution, Growlithe, have often been seen being used a police dogs.

In AG139, Drew and May wanted to capture an Arcanine for a Pokémon Contest. When it was discovered that the Ledgendary Pokémon had a litter of Growlithe puppies to take of, the two rivals decided to leave Arcanine alone.

In AG153, Tucker used Arcanine and Swampert to battle against Ash's Swellow and Corphish.

Origin

Arcanine is based on Japanese シーサー shisa, or koma-inu. They are mythical creatures that take inspiration from lions, tigers, and dogs. Statues of them in pairs are used as guardians and to invite good luck.

Name origin

Arcanine's name is a combination of arcane, meaning mysterious, and canine, meaning dog.
