Route 12

Route 12

Otherwise known as Silence Bridge, Route 12 is a great spot for fishermen. Don't forget your Poké Flute, because the second Snorlax is still snoozing halfway through the route.

Fishing Guru #3

The first house south of the Route 11 intersection is home to the third Fishing Guru; this brother hands out the Super Rod to any passing fishing enthusiasts. This high-end fishing rod is the best model, and it can reel in some of the strongest sea creatures like Seaking and Dratini. Continue south, and you can cut into a clearing with a lone Trainer to grab an Iron. Follow the tree line south to Route 13.

Route 13

Route 13

Route 13 is a maze of fences. There are fourteen Trainers scattered around, so be alert—their forty-five Pokémon can take a toll if you are not prepared. After reaching the end of the maze, follow the path south to Route 14.

Route 14

Route 14

There are only six Trainers on Route 14. After heading south, the path turns west before reaching Route 15, east of Fuchsia City.

Route 15

Route 15

Ten Trainers can be found on Route 15. First, cut down the tree to reach the north side of the route, and grab the TM20 (Rage) from the ledge. Head to the west to enter the gate, where you meet another one of Oak's aides. For catching at least 50 kinds of Pokémon, he rewards you with an Exp. All. This item distributes experience to all party members whether they fight or not, but it reduces the total amount for those that do participate in battle.

Route 19

Fuchsia City

Pay a visit to the local Pokémon Center to prepare for the southern water-bound routes. Reaching Cinnabar Island in the southwest will require the use of Surf and Strength, so plan accordingly. Stock up on Ultra Balls, too; in addition to meeting a bunch of new Water Pokémon, you will also encounter the first of the legendary Pokémon.

Routes 19 and 20 (east)

The lone building on Route 19 is the Summer Beach House. Bring a Surfing Pikachu here to participate in the Pikachu's Beach minigame! Further south, more than a dozen Trainers patrol the waters of Route 19 and Route 20. Work your way southwest through the waves to reach the Seafoam Islands.

Articuno, the legendary bird of ice

Everything here belongs to the ocean, so expect to encounter many water-dwelling creatures in these island caves. The legendary Articuno roosts on the bottom floor, but large boulders and quick-moving ocean currents hinder exploration at first.

1F

Head east and use Strength to move the boulder onto the hole, so it drops to the floor below. Climb up on the rock platform, and walk past the first ladder. Drop the second boulder down the northeast hole, then backtrack to the first ladder.

B1F

Go northeast past a second ladder, and push the boulder down the hole again. Backtrack to the ladder in the northwest corner.

B2F

Walk to the east to find the same boulder next to another hole, so drop it down. Once it falls through, go all the way back to the first floor and fall through the hole in the northeast.

B1F (northeast)

Shove the boulder through the hole and drop down after it.

B3F

Climb out of the water and head to the southwest corner to find a group of boulders. In the narrow passage, shove the right-side boulder to the back wall. Move the left-side boulder down one space, then left one space. Shove the boulder south of the ladder all the way to the left. Move the right boulder north of the eastern hole, and drop it down. Push the left boulder down the western hole, and jump down behind it to B4F.

B4F

The last floor! With the two boulders in the way, the strong current flowing through here has been blocked, letting you swim to the small island in the northwest. Be sure to save your progress before approaching Articuno, as you only have one shot to catch it.

After catching the first legendary bird, surf to the stairway near the boulders and climb the nearest ladder.

B3F

Loop around to the east, where two more boulders now block a second ocean current. Surf to the opposite shore, and climb the southeast ladder. Make your way back to the first floor, and exit the area through the western island.

Route 20 (west)

Route 20's western half connects to Cinnabar Island.
