Eterna City and Route 205

Make sure you have a Pokémon that knows Cut and at least 30 Dusk Balls! You must be playing at night (between 20:00 and 3:59 on your DS clock) in order to encounter Rotom.

Fly to Eterna City if you aren't there already and head east along the bridges on Route 205, into Eterna Forest.

Eterna Forest

Take a few steps east you'll see Gardenia looking at the Old Chateau. She greets you and asks if you've heard the rumors about ghost Pokémon living in the mansion. She says that she's too busy to explore it— she's not scared, just too busy to go in. ...or is she? Anyway, after she leaves, use Cut on one of the trees blocking your way north, and head straight north. Pick up the Ether and hidden Insect Plate, and enter the mansion.

The little girl in the adjacent room to the player is also a ghost.

It's rumored that this place is haunted. It was abandoned by its owner long ago. Walk north and go into the room in front of you if you wish. The ghost of an old man floats past as you walk in! This room is the mansion's dining hall. Pick up the hidden Antidote out of one of the trash cans, and exit this room. Next, climb up the stairs.

The westernmost room has an Old Gateau inside. There's nothing in the easternmost room. Head through the central doorway and into a hallway.

One of the rooms accessible in this hallway has a shadowy portrait hanging on the wall. If you walk around or turn your back, glowing, red eyes appear in the painting and stare at you! When you first enter this room, the ghost of a little girl appears in the room next to you. In the easternmost room, you can find TM90 (Substitute). In the westernmost room, there is a Dread Plate.

When you reach the room with the TV, save your game and prepare to fight Rotom! Rotom is at Level 15, so you need to be very careful with it.

Catching Rotom

Reason: Rotom's moveset

When you're ready, walk up to the TV and press A to initiate a battle with Rotom.

Rotom is a Ghost/Electric-type. Despite the music, Rotom is actually not a Legendary. Its stats aren't the best, but it can be bred with Ditto in order to obtain an egg. Its Special Attack and Speed are pretty good, its Defense and Special Defense are OK, and its HP and Attack aren't very good at all.

Use a Ghost- or Dark-type move to lower Rotom's HP, and then weaken it further, if necessary, with moves that aren't of the Dark, Ghost, Normal, Fighting, or Ground type. When Rotom's HP is in the red, keep throwing Dusk Balls until you catch it.

If you accidentally knock Rotom out, just reset to make it reappear.
