'''Amber''' (Japanese: '''{{tt|アイ|Ai}}''' ''I'') was the daughter of [[Dr. Fuji]], who died while she was still a child. She appeared as a speaking character during the beginning sequence that was originally cut from ''[[M01|Mewtwo Strikes Back]]'', but later featured on the ''[[Mewtwo Returns]]'' DVD as '''''The Uncut Story of Mewtwo's Origin'''''. She also appeared in ''[[The Birth of Mewtwo]]'' {{wp|radio drama}}, released in CD format exclusively in Japan. She is voiced by [[Kyoko Hikami]] in the original Japanese dub and by [[Kerry Williams]] in the English dub.

 

[[Dr. Fuji]]'s despair at losing his daughter led him to dedicate most of his life to research into {{wp|cloning}}, with the belief that he would be able to create a clone of Amber if he discovered the secrets of recreating life. This, of course, led {{an|Giovanni}} to fund him, with the condition that he would also clone {{p|Mew}}, creating {{an|Mewtwo}}.

Both Mew and Amber were cloned. Amber's clone was named '''Ambertwo'''. While they were both growing inside test tubes on [[New Island]], Mewtwo communicated with Ambertwo telepathically. Unfortunately for Fuji, Mewtwo's genetic makeup (as a {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}) and sheer force of power kept him alive while Ambertwo died. Fuji was heartbroken but continued his work on Mewtwo with the hope that another try at cloning Amber would be more successful.

* Amber may have been inspired by {{wp|Astro Boy (character)|Astro Boy}} because, like him, she was created by a scientist hoping to recreate his deceased child.

** Coincidentally, [[Dr. Fuji]] bears some resemblance to {{wp|Dr. Tenma}}, Astro Boy's father and creator.
