Her English name means "redhead", but it may have been chosen because it shares similarities with the word "flame".

In the Anime

Flannery appears in Poetry Commotion! and Going, Going, Yawn.

In the anime, Ash and company come watch a Slugma running from a girl with blazing red-hair--after having one of the water Pokemon put the fire-out. They meet up with the new Lavaridge Gym Leader, Flannery, who had been trying with her Slugma. They are sercetly helped by fake workers (Jessie and James of Team Rocket), a old women and a judge(Flannery's worried-wart dad -- I think she said grandfather--but I'm not 100% percent sure.) Flannery's pop save the day when Team Rocket attempts to steal Flannery's Torkal. In the resulting Team Rocket battle, one of her Slugma become a Marcago.

The follow day, Ash as his Lavaridge Gym battle, Ash's line up was Corpish, Pikachu and Grooyle. Despite, Corpish being bit to sleep by Flannery's Slumga, it work up in time to thrash Flannery's Torkal's defeat giving Ash Ketchum her badge.

In the Games

Her passion for Pokémon burns stronger and hotter than a volcano. She is admired for her beauty and strength. She's only been Gym Leader for a short time, and she tries to act intimidating but can't quite get it right. After she loses to the main character, she realized that she was trying to be hard to be someone that she wasn't and had to run things her own way.

Her grandfather was once a member of the Hoenn Elite Four. She has apparently battled with Norman sometime in the past.

In addition to the Heatbadge, Flannery gives out TM 50, Overheat, in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Pokémon Emerald.

In the Pokémon Special Manga

In the Pokémon Special, Flannery tried to protect Mt. Chimney from having it's flames doused by Team Aqua. However, even with the help of Sapphire, she was unable to prevent the water-worshiping team from causing the volcano to become dormant.

During the battle, she was also assisted by Tabitha of Team Magma. The two seemed to be attracted to each other. Later, when all the Hoenn Gym Leaders chose sides, Flannery alligned herself with Team Magma. The destruction later caused by Kyogre and Groudon changed her mind.

Flannery is also close friend with Winona Template:Mangastub
