(Japanese: キズナ現象 Bond Phenomenon) is a transformation similar to Mega Evolution that first appeared in A Festival of Decisions!, and was first named in XY129. It is said to have some connection to the Pokémon's hidden potential. So far, the only known Pokémon to have this transformation is Greninja.

Ash and his Greninja have perfected the transformation

Unlike Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion, the transformation doesn't require any specific items for either the Trainer or the Pokémon. Instead, Bond Phenomenon may be achieved when the trust between the Trainer and the Pokémon reaches maximum, but not all Pokémon can obtain it. In the anime, while a Pokémon and Trainer are using this form, the Trainer shares the Pokémon's pain in the same place the Pokémon was dealt damage. The Trainer can also share the Pokémon's point of view. If the form isn't mastered, the Trainer and Pokémon can pass out from using this form.

Portrayal of a Greninja in the past from the Ninja Village, who also achieved the transformation

Greninja's Bond Phenomenon also appears in Pokémon Shuffle, Pokémon Picross, Pokémon Tretta, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It does not appear in the core series games.

Trivia

  • Peculiarly, despite not executing this technique, Bonnie and Squishy showed signs of being similarly synchronized to users of the Bond Phenomenon during XY133 (being able to sense the area around them and Bonnie feeling pain when Squishy was under attack).
