Banette (Japanese: ジュペッタ Juppeta; German: Banette; French: Branette) is a Ghost-type Pokémon.
Pokédex entries
- Pokémon Ruby
- Banette generates energy for laying strong curses by sticking pins into its own body. This Pokémon was orignally a pitiful plush doll that was thrown away.
- Pokémon Emerald
- An abandoned plush doll became this Pokémon. They are said to live in garbage dumps and wander about in search of the children that threw them away.
Name origin
Banette's name is a combination of bane and marionette. Its Japanese name may be a corruption of Jupiter or a reference to Gepetto, a woodcarver who built a puppet that came to life in the story of Pinnochio. The -petta may also come from a japanese translation of puppet.
Its appearance and habit of sticking itself with pins is highly reminicent of voodoo dolls.
