Sableye is a bipedal Pokémon with a dark purple body. It has pale blue, gemstone-like eyes, which allow it to see in low light and sparkle in the dark. It also has a red gemstone on its chest and its back has two blue gems and another red one. These gem-like eyes and adornments on its body are caused by its diet, which consists of rocks and raw gemstones. It also has sharp teeth and claws. It is feared by people, since it is said to steal a person's soul if they look into its eyes. It is nocturnal and is rarely seen. It lives in caves.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky: Six Sableye perform the same role as above, and in addition appear in Special Episode 5, which contains the events happening after Grovyle returns to the future with Dusknoir, and play a role in the episode's plot.
Pokédex entries
This Pokémon was unavailable prior to Generation III.
Sableye lead quiet lives deep inside caverns. They are feared, however, because these Pokémon are thought to steal the spirits of people when their eyes burn with a sinister glow in the darkness.
Sableye digs the ground with sharpened claws to find rocks that it eats. Substances in the eaten rocks crystallize and rise up to the Pokémon's body surface.
Sableye is one of the only two Pokémon created so far that are naturally and without help of an Ability weak to no type. Sableye can only be hit by a super-effective move by removing an immunity, changing its type or using a Shadow move after purification in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.
Since Sableye is one of the two Pokémon that has a type combination with no weaknesses, it and Spiritomb are commonly hacked to have the Ability Wonder Guard. This hack is commonly referred to as Wondereye.
Sableye seems to be the counterpart of Mawile. Both of them are version-exclusive of Ruby and Sapphire, as well as in HeartGold and SoulSilver. They also have the same base stat total (with the same base HP and Speed). Sableye is also a dual-type Pokémon with no weakness, while Mawile was the single type with the most resistances, prior to its type change in Generation VI. They are also the only two Pokémon that can learn Metal Burst by breeding.
Sableye shares the same species name with Murkrow. They are both known as the Darkness Pokémon.
Sableye has the lowest base stat total of all fully evolved Dark-type Pokémon.
Origin
Sableye is a stylization of the Hopkinsville Goblin, a creature from an alleged Kentucky "alien encounter" described as having shining eyes, small legs, clawed arms and swaying hips (a movement that Sableye does indeed imitate in the 3-D Pokémon games). The Hopkinsville aliens are most famous in Japan, where they have appeared in other anime and video games.
Name origin
Sableye is a combination of sable and eye. It may also be a play on able-eyed.
Yamirami may be a combination of 闇 yami (darkness) and 藪睨み yabunirami (a squint) or 睨み nirami (glare).
