You threw out Japanese Crystal?! Oh noo! :) Anyway, changing the batteries is the easiest thing EVER if you have a few bucks and a Radio Shack (or other electronics store). With needle-nose pliers, unscrew the back, slide it off and voilá! The battery. Any store clerk can get you another, and then just tape it in. Works like a charm! There are some great pages on the internet with picture and detailed instructions, too. If your Gold does die, and you need a little walkthrough, just let me know.
