Saying "Alain defeats Ash... and wins... becoming the winner" is redundant, as the first part of the sentence already establishes the fact that Alain won the final round of the Lumiose Conference. The format of the 'result' statement similarly follows previous episode pages ([[EP272]], [[DP189]], and [[BW108]]), in which it states that the winner became a [[Pokémon Champion]]. Also per the "Pokémon Champion" page, it states that "It usually refers to a Trainer who has completed a Pokémon League by collecting all the necessary Badges, and either winning the regional Pokémon tournament or defeating the Elite Four and the previous Champion..."
Alain won the regional Pokémon League, and the use of the word "or" implies that Alain only has to accomplish one of the two requirements, and not both. Also in the list under the subheading "In the anime," it lists the previous league winners as a Pokémon Champion.
