In [[XY078]], Pikachu, along with Ash and his friends, visit the [[Poké Ball Factory]]. There, they are tricked by Team Rocket who separates the group from their Poké Balls, with only Pikachu managing to escape. Pikachu first tried to free Ash and his friends, but when that failed, he attempted to get the attaché case that held the groups Poké Balls. Meowth then chased after Pikachu, being the only one small enough to squeeze through the factory equipment and ventilation shafts that Pikachu escaped through, and continuously attempted to recall Pikachu into his Poké Ball. In the end, the Team Rocket trio attempted to escape with the Poké Balls they stole when they saw that Ash and his friends were after them, but after Pikachu managed to stop there van with a Thunderbolt, Meowth challenged Pikachu to a one-on-one.
