Roark leads with a level 12 Geodude which is easily OHKO'd by whatever move you have that is super effective against rock which everyone has. If you don't one hit it can Stealth Rock for hazards when you switch into something (as if). Rock Throw won't do anything, but it should be dead before it does anything anyway. His level 12 Onix does have a high defense stat, so it may take two or three hits unless you are using a water type move or a non-resisted special attack. Onix has the same moves as Geodude adding in Screech to drop your defense by -2. Level 14 Cranidos can be a huge problem if you dont outspeed and OHKO, which can happen. It has a ridiculously high attack stat with Headbutt for massive damage, Leer to drop your defense, making its attacks stronger. Pursuit is a solid move that can hurt a lot if you switch and even in the battle itself.

Pursuit is a solid move that can hurt a lot if you switch and even in the battle itself. However, Cranidos is very fragile, so 1 or 2 super-effective hits will bring it down before it can destroy your team. Moves like Mega Drain, Mach Punch, Bubble, Metal Claw and so on works well.
After the battle, you would receive the {{DL|Badge|Coal Badge}} which allow you to now use {{m|Rock Smash}} outside of battle and you will receive {{TM|76|Stealth Rock}}. Now head back to Oreburgh Gate and you will meet Barry again and he would tell you you need to go back to Jubilife City and then go north, to go to Eterna City.
