:::::I know this is a late reply but thought it should be stated. It is highly possible that Pikachu also has Volt Absorb or what ever its called. In the battle against Roxanne's Nosepass it absorbed the Zap Cannon and regained strength which in the anime is the same as health. I agree with those above stating that abilities are different in the anime world.
