 In ''[[XY058|The Green, Green Grass Types of Home!]]'', Ash used Hawlucha as his second Pokémon in his [[Coumarine Gym]] Battle against [[Ramos]], it went up against {{p|Weepinbell}}. Hawlucha used Flying Press which damaged Weepinbell, it then used High Jump Kick, but Weepinbell used {{m|Poison Powder}}, {{status|poisoning}} Hawlucha. Weepinbell used {{m|Razor Leaf}} and Hawlucha was unable to dodge due to it struggling from the Poison Powder, it was then hit by Weepinbell's {{m|Slam}}, it then used Flying Press, but it was slow due to the damage it had taken and it was caught by Weepinbell's {{m|Grass Knot}}, slamming it to the ground. Hawlucha jumped backwards and made a successful hit with High Jump Kick, but the Flycatcher Pokémon was able to grab onto Hawlucha and use Slam, knocking it out.
-In [[XY067]], Hawlucha was used in Ash's Gym battle against {{an|Clemont}}. It was sent out against Clemont's {{TP|Clemont|Heliolisk}} to counter its amazing speed. Hawlucha used its own speedy movements to hit Heliolisk with a super-effective Karate Chop. Hawlucha then tried to avoid a {{m|Parabolic Charge}}, but got hit causing much damage and also restoring some of Heliolisk's health. As Hawlucha tried to attack with Flying Press Heliolisk used {{m|Flash}} to blind Hawlucha causing it to crash on the ground and immediately after got hit by another Parabolic Charge. Ash then noticed Heliolisk extending its collar right before attacking, using this knowledge Hawlucha used High Jump Kick at the right moment to hit Heliolisk and send it crashing into a wall, knocking it out. Hawlucha then faced {{TP|Clemont|Luxray}} and started off with a Flying Press which scored a direct hit. Luxray however quickly recovered and used {{m|Electric Terrain}} to power up his Electric-type attacks. Hawlucha then used High Jump Kick, but got overpowered by Luxray's {{m|Wild Charge}}, defeating it.

It went up against his Heliolisk, with Ash choosing Hawlucha to match Heliolisk's speed. Hawlucha used Karate Chop which Heliolisk was unable to block as well as it being super-effective, against the partial {{type|Normal}} Pokémon, as mentioned by [[Meyer]]. Heliolisk used {{m|Parabolic Charge}}, which Hawlucha tried to dodge, but was unable to, and it also healed Heliolisk. Hawlucha used Flying Press, but Heliolisk used {{m|Flash}}, causing the attack to miss, it then used a close-range Parabolic Charge, which Hawlucha was unable to dodge, this healed Heliolisk even more. Heliolisk used its agility to confuse Hawlucha. Ash remembered Heliolisk's use of its extending collar and came up with an idea. He had Hawlucha wait for Heliolisk's attack, when it began to use Parabolic Charge and opened its collar, Ash had Hawlucha use {{m|High Jump Kick}} on the exposed collar, knocking Heliolisk out.
