Pokémon Online (commonly shortened to POL) is a fan-made MMORPG created with Clickteam's Multimedia Fusion. The project is handled by a wide variety of team members with the current leader being Haris. The MMORPG is planned to be based on the gameboy Pokémon games. Many of the forum members help the team out by posting suggestions, helping to create sprites and revamp older ones, mapping and more. Occasionally the team sometimes offers people to be hired and help work in a certain 'department'.

The developers are using the game mechanics of the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance versions of the popular Pokémon games.
As of now version 0.6 was released to the project and is a prototype of what is to be expected. The servers today however are closed until the release of the next version which will be an improvement.

Currently POL is in beta stages, at this point only basic user interaction with other players, walking movement and simple battle is possible.

The Pokémon Online website is where announcements of the MMORPG's updates are posted, sometimes announcements simply being related to the project itself is also posted. The website also shows server status, beta screen shots of the project, important information about how the engine will work as shown in World Concepts and more.

The website also has a forum where many of the members are quite active even today. Not all of the announcements are posted on the website, half of it are for the forum members. Forum members are also given the privileges to post suggestions, show their spriting/mapping work and help the team in various ways.

POL's website has information about the game POL and its history until it ended in 1999.  Recently, it has been revived with new updates being posted on the website.
The History
Pokémon Online was first originally being developed by an old Bulbagarden member named Konidias a.k.a MeowthBG. Bulbagarden was one of the first places to hear about MeowthBG's dream of a real working Pokémon MMORPG. Because Bulbagarden was - and still is - so popular, the first stages of Pokémon Online was able to get enough help and support and the project became an enigmatic dream.

The site also hosts a forum, containing mapping, suggestions, and help and support boards.
The first stages of the project were however short lived, lasting only from 1999 to 2003. The sudden and unknown departure of MeowthBG may have been the main reason, although no one is quite sure the real reason and only theories exist why Pokémon Online stopped so soon. Whatever the reason was it caused quite a stir in the supporters of the project, which in turn only fueled the desire to continue the project on their own. Currently there seems to be no older version of Pokémon Online existing, and only copies of the newer projects exist today.

It is still under devolopment.
The project, now revived, is handled by a variety of team members. Some are part in the programming department, others in spriting department etc. The leader of the project is Haris.
