Gender of Tracey's Marill
Now I understand the idea of the mechanics in the anime and the games not necessarily being 1:1. However, it doesn't make any sense for them not to be. Every other mechanic I can think of works at least similarly between the two, and those that don't are for the simple reason that certain things just make no sense in a real-world scenario.
As it stands for breeding, if the people who created the mechanics of the games had anything to do with the mechanics of the anime, then it would stand to reason that the mechanics would be 1:1. Thus, by this logic, Tracey's Marill, who has a child in Misty's Azurill, would be the female of whichever union created the egg.
On a tangential note, the above Azurill knows Refresh (move). The only way for this Pokémon to learn this move is for it to know it through breeding. In this scenario, the father of the Pokémon must know the move. The only way this could happen in this case is for the father to be a Corsola (Pokémon), and the only way that this makes sense is for Misty's Corsola to know Refresh and to be Azurill's father. Of course, said Corsola has never been shown in the anime to know Refresh, so I am speculating, but does that not make sense?
