According to [http://www.glitterberri.com/pokemon-red-blue/game-freak-staff-interview/gold-silver-powered-up/ this translation of an interview with staff of GAME FREAK, there is a connection between the two trainer classes. Since the site is linked on other articles (i believe it was the prototype Pokémon one), i think they are trustworthy and since this comes directly from the developers, it should be considered official. | |||
