Where does the info about them being guardians of the sea, land, etc. come from? I can't find any official references to it; it seems to be fanon. Groudon and Kyogre spend their time in deep slumber until awakened by Team Magma/Aqua. And once awoke, they try to expand their dominion without regards for their actions' catastrophic effects on the world and its inhabitants.
