 The episode starts with a wild {{AP|Roggenrola}} running out of a cave, panicked, and escaping through a tunnel. Meanwhile, {{Ash}}, {{an|Iris}}, and {{an|Cilan}} are having pie which Ash compliments on. As Cilan began to explain how it was made, the Roggenrola jumped out of the tall grass and smashed into the table, destroying the pie, causing Cilan much distress. However the Roggenrola didn't seem to notice as it began rambling on. Ash scans it into his PokéDex and then decided to catch it.
-First he sent out {{AP|Oshawott}} who is ordered to use {{m|Water Gun}}. It's attack is deflected when Roggenrola kicks a bowl in front of itself. Oshawott then tried an {{m|Aqua Jet}}, which Roggenrola evaded causing Oshawott to crash into the table and knock himself out. As Roggenrola makes its landing from dodging Oshawott's attack, Cilan noticed a strange device on its back. Ash then sent out Tepig and ordered him to use {{m|Tackle}}. Roggenrola again dodged the attacks with ease and Ash ordered Tepig to use {{m|Flame Charge}} which landed a direct hit and ended up knocking the device off Roggenrola's back. However Roggenrola was still standing due to its {{a|Sturdy|ability}}. Tepig came back with another Tackle, but before it could reach Roggenrola, the Mantle Pokémon stopped Tepig in his tracks with {{m|Sandstorm}} immediately followed by {{m|Stone Edge}} which knocked out Tepig. Ash then picked up Tepig and hurried to the Pokémon Center, glancing back at the Roggenrola who is still acting strangely.

 The trio are then seen waiting in the Pokémon Center lobby when Nurse Joy emerged from the examination room with Tepig and Oshawott's Poké Balls and stated that they made a full recovery. As Ash retrieved his Poké Balls, a man entered the room and explained that the equipment at the Pokémon Center is working efficiently. Nurse Joy introduced the man as [[Tuttle]] and explained that the Pokémon Center hadn't been receiving water and she hired Tuttle to look into the issue. Tuttle explained that the problem may be caused by the source of the Pokémon Center's water supply: a spring located deep within a cave which then travels through a man-made canal to the center. Intrigued, Ash asked to know more, and Nurse Joy explained that the cave is home to lots of wild {{p|Roggenrola}}. Iris remarked that they saw a Roggenrola earlier, which surprised Tuttle and Nurse Joy, claiming that Roggenrola rarely venture outside of the cave and began to worry about them. Cilan then pointed out that he saw a device strapped to the Roggenrola they saw earlier. Convinced, Tuttle decided to go and investigate the cave and agreed to let Ash and co. go along.
