The Sakuragi institute was officially opened in [[SS002]]. However the building is significantly older and was abandoned for a time as revealed in [[SS016]]. Three years prior, a {{AP|Gengar}}, which was later {{pkmn2|caught}} by Ash, haunted the facility after it was abandoned by its [[Gengar's former Trainer|former Trainer]]. Professor Sakuragi was well aware of the haunting rumors when he purchased the building, but was unfazed by the odd phenomena which soon subsided.
