In ''[[AG192|Home is Where the Start Is!]]'', Ash uses Pikachu in a friendly battle against {{gary}}, who uses his powerful {{TP|Gary|Electivire}}, a [[Sinnoh]] region Pokémon. Both Pokémon used Thunderbolt and were even, Pikachu used Quick Attack but it was dodged by Electivire using its tails, both Pokémon used Iron Tail, and they were even again, but Electivire looked unscathed. Pikachu used a close range Thunderbolt, and Electivire dodged by jumping, however this is what Ash wanted and had Pikachu use Volt Tackle since it was now defenseless, however Electivire blocked the attack with {{m|Protect}} and launched its powerful {{m|Thunder Punch}}, defeating Pikachu. Later he went with Ash to the Sinnoh region, intending for him to be the only Pokémon to go with him, as he left his Hoenn Pokémon at Professor Oak's laboratory, however {{AP|Aipom}}, snuck on board and she went with them to the Sinnoh region.
