At the start of the game, you have one [[Pokémon]] for which the bingo sheet is named that has two EP or Entry Points. You also have two empty [[Poké Ball#Generation I Poké Balls|Master Balls]] and a fourth slot with no ball or Pokémon in it. | |||
You can choose any square out of the sixteen to begin at. From that square and any other cleared squares you have in the game, you have to move to adjacent squares. When the square is gray with a question mark on it, there is an [[Items|item]] underneath. When it is colored and has a [[Elemental types|type]] name written on it, there is a Pokémon of that type and possibly a second type underneath and by moving to that square you will have to [[Pokémon battle|battle]] it. You must send in a Pokémon to this battle, and a Pokémon must have at least one Entry Point to enter it. When it does, it can either take on the enemy Pokémon and attempt to defeat it, or you can throw a Master Ball to [[Captured Pokémon|capture]] the enemy Pokémon.
