Armaldo (Japanese: アーマルド Armaldo) is a dual-type Fossil Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Anorith starting at level 40.
It evolves from Anorith starting at level 40, after it is revived from a Claw Fossil.

Biology
Biology
Armaldo is a fossilized, prehistoric Pokémon no longer found in the wild, and must be evolved from an Anorith resurrected from a Claw Fossil.
Armaldo is a bipedal, amphibious Pokémon that somewhat resembles a mantis shrimp. It is covered with thick, grayish-blue plates. There are accents of yellow, black, white, and red throughout its body. Its oblong eyes protrude from the sides of its head. A black pattern with two red, teardrop-shaped spots covered the center of its head and a yellow lower jaw. Three pairs of wing-like appendages extend from the sides of its long, thick neck. A plate of armor on its back has four short spikes and two triangular, yellow-rimmed wings extending from underneath. Its scaled chest and belly are rimmed with yellow lines as well, and there are two large yellow plates in the center of its chest. Its segmented arms extend from holes in these plates, each with a large, black claw. The legs are also segmented, with black knees. A pair of black fins tips its long tail.
Physiology
Armaldo has a long neck, and two blade-like arms. It is covered in thick, heavy-duty, armored plates. Hence, the name, the Plate Pokémon. Armaldo's tough armor makes all attacks bounce off. This Pokémon's two enormous claws can be freely extended or contracted. They have the power to punch right through a steel slab. An amphibious Pokémon, it usually lives on land. However, when it hunts for prey, it dives beneath the ocean. It swims around using its two large wings.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Behavior
In ancient times, Armaldo lived on List of Pokémon by habitat and dived into the ocean to hunt for prey. The large wings on its back were used for swimming, while its thick shell protected it from enemy attacks. Its strong claws can break stones, punch through a steel slab, and take down prey. Furthermore, they can be freely extended or retracted. It is considered to be the ancestor of some bug Pokémon.
When bothered, Armaldo responds with powerful attacks. It calms itself down afterwards by eating good food.

Habitat
Evolution
Armaldo evolves from Anorith.
The exact habitat of Armaldo is unknown, but so far Claw Fossils are only found in the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions.

NPC appearances
Armaldo premiered in a movie that was shown in Lights, Camerupt, Action. Its role in the movie was defending a castle where a Kirlia princess was held captive.
spoilers
* Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky: An Armaldo serves a mentor to the future Guildmaster Wigglytuff while he was still an Igglybuff. Initially reluctant due to Igglybuff's devil-may-care attitude, he takes him on as an apprentice after sensing a powerful intuition from the baby Pokémon and eventually grows close to the young child. He tends to acknowledge many RPG staples, such as traps and bosses but is just as easily fooled by them. Eventually, it is revealed that Armaldo is an outlaw and is caught after clearing the Fortune Ravine. Igglybuff protests wildly and is about to unleash a powerful Hyper Voice (the first show of his infamous temper), until Armaldo calms him down and explains the situation; he gives the still-protesting Igglybuff a Defend Globe (the first treasure the pair found on their first adventure) as a gift to remember him by, and Armaldo willingly gives himself up to the authorities. This story serves as the backdrop for the second Special Episode, Igglybuff the Prodigy.
* He later reappears in Super Mystery Dungeon, where another Igglybuff requests the player to deliver a Tiny Reviver Seed to Armaldo. Upon delivery, Armaldo muses about another Igglybuff he knew that had become a respected guildmaster.

Trivia
Trivia
*Armaldo and its pre-evolution, Anorith, are the only Bug Pokémon with genders that are not in the Bug egg group.
* Armaldo and its pre-evolved form are the only Pokémon with the Swift Swim Ability that are also weak to Water.
*Armaldo cannot learn Surf or Dive, despite its Emerald Pokédex entry, its presence in the Water 3, and the fact that it's seen swimming with someone on its back on the Pokémon Special manga. Furthermore, in each Mystery Dungeon, Armaldo cannot naturally move over water while its pre-evelution Anorith can.
* Due to an error, Armaldo has the move Slash in its moveset twice in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and Sun and Moon: once at level 25 and again at level 34. It was later fixed in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, with Bug Bite replacing Slash at level 25 to match what its pre-evolution learns.

Origin
Origin
It appears to be based upon the Anomalocaris, although it shares some physical traits with dinosaurs.

Name origin
Name origin
Armaldo's name possibly originated from a corruption of armor; however, it could also be a combination of armor and armadillo.
Armaldo may be a combination of armado (Spanish for armored), Anomalocaris, and possibly shield or ald (Old Saxon for old).
