Biology
Physiology
Lunatone is a cream-colored, rock Pokémon with a crescent moon shape. In the center of the crescent is a pointed, beak-like structure. It has deep-set, red eyes, which can cause paralyzing fear or induce sleep.
Lunatone is a Pokémon that originally came from space. They originally came to earth within meteorites and have since adapted to life on earth quite nicely. Being an inorganic Pokémon, it isn't preyed upon, nor does it need to prey on others, as it derives all its energy from moonlight. It uses telekinesis to float in mid-air and is capable of reading the thoughts of other lifeforms like most psychic types. It is even capable of brainwashing, but only does this when it feels threatened and is usually a last resort.

Lunatone lives in List of Pokémon by habitat and becomes active under a full moon. The moon increases its power, and its health is tied to the lunar phases. Using its psychic powers, Lunatone floats through the air. It was first discovered at the site of a meteor crash. There's a theory that Lunatone may have originated from outer space.

Behavior
Stats
Lunatone's power and health seems to be tied directly to the Lunar phase. When there is a full moon, Lunatone is at the peak of its strength. Presumably when there is a new moon, Lunatone is defenseless. It is capable of reading the minds of other lifeforms.

Trivia
*Lunatone shares the same species name with its counterpart Solrock. They are both known as Meteorite Pokémon.
* Lunatone shares its category with its counterpart Solrock. They are both known as the Meteorite Pokémon.
*Lunatone's pupils were small slits in its R/S/E and FR/LG sprites, but in D/P, the pupils are slightly more open.
* Lunatone and Solrock have nearly identical base stats, with only the physical and special stats switched.
*In the "Items" section of the DP Official Guide Book, Lunatone's name is misspelled as Lunastone.
* In the "Items" section of the DP Official Guide Book, Lunatone's name is misspelled as "Lunastone".
*Despite being a moon-like Pokémon, and what was shown in AG087, Lunatone cannot learn Moonlight.
*Without its ability, this Pokémon and its counterpart Solrock are the only Pokémon that have seven weaknesses and are not partially Grass or doubly weak/resistant to anything. Other Pokémon that have seven weaknesses include Celebi, Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Snover and Abomasnow.
*Lunatone and Solrock have some similarities to Unown and the Baltoy and Bronzor lines in that they are Psychic, have Levitate, and like caves and ruins.

Origin
Origin
Lunatone is based on a meteorite shaped like a crescent moon.
Lunatone seems to be based on a lunar phase moon, as well as a meteorite. It might also pull from depictions of the Man in the Moon, a figure imagined from the patterns on the moon's surface, especially those of the crescent moon.

Name origin
Name origin
Lunatone's name is a combination of the Latin luna, meaning moon, and stone. Its German name, Lunastein, comes from luna and Stein. Its French name, Seleroc, comes from Selene, a Greek lunar deity, and roc.
Lunatone may be a combination of luna (Latin for moon) and stone.
