}}
Koffing (Japanese: ドガース Dogars) is a Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

Biology
It evolves into Weezing starting at level 35.
Physiology
Koffing is a round, purple Pokémon filled to the brim with toxic gases.  Several crater-like protrusions on this Pokémon's body give it the resemblance of a naval mine.  Koffing has a skull and cross-bones below its blissful face.  Koffing has been considered to be related to Grimer, who is also a purple Poison-type Pokémon that associates with pollutants.  Koffing may also be related to Drifloon, who is also a floating, round, purple, "X"-bearing Pokémon with a tendency to explode.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
In Galar, Koffing evolves into Galarian Weezing starting at level 35.
Koffing spews out poisonous gases whenever it gets agitated.  Koffing has also been known to explode from over inflating its body.  Koffing is also capable of launching Fire and Electrical attacks.

Behavior
Biology
Habitat
Koffing is a spherical Pokémon filled with toxic gases. It has vacant eyes and a wide mouth that usually has two pointed teeth in the upper jaw. However, a full set of teeth has been seen in the anime. Below its face is a cream-colored skull-and-crossbones marking. Several geyser-like protrusions, which usually release a mustard-colored gas, cover this Pokémon's body. Koffing's purple skin is very thin, and over-inflation can cause it to explode. The Pocket Monsters Carddass Trading Cards depicts Koffing as having a hollow body.

Koffing are a very common sight around burned down buildings, abandoned buildings and power plants.

Diet
Koffing creates gases within its body by mixing toxins with garbage, and produces more gas in higher temperatures. These gases are malodorous and cause sniffles, coughs, and teary eyes to those around them. The gases are also lighter than air, allowing Koffing to hover. When agitated, it creates a more toxic gas and expels it through the holes in its body. As shown in the anime, Koffing's gas can be ignited by fire or electricity. It feeds on the fumes of raw, rotting trash found in gas dumps and polluted air. Koffing at one point was plentiful in Galar due to factories. Koffing is most often found in List of Pokémon by habitat.
Main article: Pokémon food

Koffing mainly eat rotten kitchen garbage.
Koffing and its evolution, Weezing, are the only known Pokémon that can have Neutralizing Gas as an Ability.

In the anime
Evolution
Koffing evolves into Weezing.
Koffing first appeared in Pokémon Emergency as James's Pokémon.  It evolved into Weezing during Dig Those Diglett.

A poacher had captured a bunch of Koffing in A Poached Ego.
In Galar, it evolves into Galarian Weezing.

In the manga
(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data&rarr;Evolution data.)
In the Pokémon Special manga
<div style="float:center; display:flex; flex-flow:row wrap;">
Koffing is seen as one of Koga's Pokémon. When Koga and Green are ambushed by Agatha's Gengar in Volume 7, Koga uses Koffing's smoke to relay his tactical plan to Green without Gengar noticing.

Koffing appears as a trophy in both games.

Trophy information
3DS: This Poison-type Pokémon's balloon-like body is filled with toxic gases. In Smash Run, it floats over to fighters and expels gas at regular intervals. If the gas touches you, the stats you've worked so hard to build up will drop! Attack while it's deflated to take it down safely, and then help yourself to the many, many items it leaves behind.

Wii U: A Poison-type Pokémon that looks somewhat like a blown-up balloon. As you might be able to guess, though, it's not filled with fresh air - that's poison gas, and this Pokémon isn't shy about sharing. In Smash Tour, the gas it spews will hide spaces and any items that may be on them. The smoke should disappear by the end of the turn.

Trivia
* In the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Koffing was originally known as "Ny", representing New York City's polluted air.
* According to a question of a Pokémon Exam the characters of the anime participated in, Koffing was supposedly first discovered in a public bathhouse. However, the Team Rocket expansion's Team Rocket card states that Koffing was first discovered in a weapons factory. This may be either because Jessie answered the question incorrectly, or due to an inconsistency between the TCG and anime.
* Koffing and Munna are the only Pokémon whose names are mentioned in music found in the games. Munna's name is heard in ミュージカル「メロメロ★ムンナ」 Musical "Charming Munna", while Koffing's Japanese name is heard in タチワキジム(演奏・DOGARS) Virbank Gym (Performance - KOFFING), although it is replaced with the word "Pokémon" in international releases.
** This distinction is possibly shared with Wingull, as its Japanese name, キャモメ Camome, is arguably heard in the obscure vocals of ビレッジブリッジ Village Bridge.
* Koffing shares similar traits to Grimer and Trubbish. All three Pokémon are pure Poison Pokémon with a single evolved form, roughly the same base stat totals and evolution levels, and appear to be based on a different kind of pollution; Koffing being air pollution.
* Koffing and its evolved Kantonian form are the only Pokémon whose Abilities changed in Generation VIII. In previous generations, their only Ability was Levitate.

Evolution
Origin
{| border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="margin: auto;"
Considering its looks, its ability to float, and its tendency to explode, Koffing may have been based upon a floating naval mine or living meteorite. It is also based on smog and other forms of air pollution. Koffing may also be based on the imagined fear that heavy pollution, caused by the leakage and/or improper disposal of toxic and/or radioactive waste, may result in the creation of new and undesirable lifeforms. The symbol under its face resembles the skull and crossbones, a hazard symbol for poison.

Koffing may be a corruption of coughing.

Trivia
*Koffing's original English name was going to be "Ny", the initials of New York.
*Koffing was depicted as having its skull-and-crossbones pattern being above its face in Pokémon Red and Blue and the Japanese Pokémon Blue, rather than the pattern being under its face as potraied in the original versions of Pokémon Red and Green and later games. It is unknown if this was purposely done or if it was a sprite error (similar to the error of Raikou's sprite in Pokémon Gold and Silver).
*Koffing is the favorite Pokémon of Pokemopolis.
*According to a question of a Pokémon Exam the characters of the anime participate in, Koffing was supposedly first discovered in a public outhouse.

Name origin
Koffing's name is a corruption of the word coughing. Its Japanese word is based on English gas while the do is Japanese for either bad or poisoning.
