Gligar (Japanese: グライガー Gliger) is a dual-type Pokémon.

It evolves into Gliscor when leveled up holding a Evolution-inducing held item during the night.
It evolves into Gliscor when leveled up while holding a Razor Fang during the night.

(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for these details.)

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Gligar is a purple, Chiroptera Pokémon with scorpion features. Its head and body are round and roughly equal in size. It has long, triangular ears and triangular eyes with small pupils. Two large pointed teeth protrude from its upper jaw, and a pink tongue is often seen lolling from its mouth. Its arms are segmented at the wrists and end in large pincers. Spread between its arms are two blue wing membranes, each tipped with a purple claw. Its legs are thin and likewise segmented at the ankles, with its round feet having one claw each. Gligar has a long tail split into spherical sections, ending in a large, round stinger. The female Gligar will have a smaller stinger than the male.
Gligar is a small, purple, bat-like Pokémon. It has blue wings, which are similar in function to a flying squirrel's, and have pointed claws at the edges of the membranes. Gligar has pincers on its forelegs, and a segmented, insectoid tail with a stinger on the end. Gligar has short hind legs, and feet that appear segmented with a large, single claw each. Additionally, Gligar has long, pointed ears and triangle-shaped eyes, fangs and a large tongue which is often seen out of its mouth. Gligar could be considered a cousin of Skorupi due to its scorpion-like traits; however, it shares some bat-like traits as well, making it similar to Zubat. There is confusion whether the claws on a Gligar's wings and feet are white or purple, since the artwork has differed this way between and even during generations. However, the official artwork from HeartGold and SoulSilver depicts Gligar with purple claws, the same purple as its body.

Gender differences
As shown in the anime, Gligar feed on Berries and can emit sound waves to detect obstacles and fly around them. It glides smoothly and silently through the air with its limbs extended, and startles its prey and enemies by flying straight toward them. It attacks by clamping onto its enemy's face with its clawed hind legs and pincers, then jabbing it with its poisonous stinger. Gligar itself is Immunity. Gligar lives in List of Pokémon by habitat, making its nest along cliff sides. When it is done gliding, it hops along the ground back to its nest. In Hisui, it is revealed that Gligar can survive even freezing temperatures.
A female Gligar has a smaller stinger.

Special abilities
Evolution
Gligar knows a small handful of poisonous attacks, such as Poison Sting and the rarely known Cross Poison. Gligar can also use a few Bug moves, like Fury Cutter and U-turn. While Gligar can learn Ground and Rock moves typical to a Ground Pokémon, its abilities as a Flying are limited. Most notable is the fact that Gligar cannot learn Fly.
Gligar evolves into Gliscor.

Also, Gligar and its evolved form Gliscor are two out of three Pokémon that are both Flying and Ground, which gives them an immunity to both Electric and Ground moves. This trait is shared only with Vibrava, Flygon, Baltoy, and Claydol due to the Levitate Ability, and Landorus, who has the same type combination.
(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

As shown in Riding the Winds of Change!, Gligar, along with its evolved form Gliscor, can Animal echolocation to detect obstacles and fly around them.

Flying straight at the foe’s face, it startles them by clamping on with its clawed hind legs and the pincers on its forelegs, before jabbing with its poison stinger. Gligar also tend to ambush prey as it passes by below. When it is done gliding, it hops along the ground back to its nest.
* Super Mystery Dungeon: The same Gligar appears as a recruitable Pokémon, but his quest will only become available upon connecting with Bidoof.

Trivia
* Although Gligar was unable to learn Earthquake by TM in Generation II, a Gligar that knew Earthquake was a reward in Pokémon Stadium 2 for beating the Silver in Round 2.
* Although Gligar could not learn Earthquake by TM in Generation II, a Gligar that knew Earthquake was a reward in Pokémon Stadium 2 for beating the Silver in Round 2.
* Gligar's colors vary between games and the anime. It is light blue-violet in most sprite artwork and game artwork, dark pink in Gold and Silver, blue-purple in Platinum, regular purple in the high-grade console games such as Pokémon Battle Revolution, and powder-pink in the anime and in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
* Gligar can be seen as a counterpart to Sneasel. Both of them have two types which cause them to have a 4× weakness to another type, have the same base stat total, evolve into Pokémon that were introduced in Generation IV (Gliscor and Weavile), and do so by leveling up at night while holding an Evolution item whose name includes the word razor (Razor Fang and Razor Claw).
* Gligar is heavier than its evolution at 142.9 lbs (64.8 kg) to Gliscor's 93.7 lbs (42.5 kg).
* Gligar is one of fourteen non-Bug, Flying Pokémon that cannot learn Fly.
* Gligar is one of four Pokémon immune to one of its own types without the aid of an Ability. It shares this trait with Gliscor, Stunfisk and Landorus.
** They are all part Ground.
* Gligar can be seen as a parallel to Sneasel. Both of them are dual-types, have the same base stat total, evolve into Pokémon Gliscor Weavile introduced in Generation IV, and do so by leveling up at night while holding items both containing the word razor.
* Gligar is one of only two Pokémon with gender differences that evolves into a Pokémon with no differences between genders. The other is Murkrow.
* Gligar and Gliscor can learn six moves with a high critical-hit ratio, more than any Pokémon.
