Golduck (Japanese: ゴルダック Golduck) is a Water Pokémon.
Golduck (Japanese: ゴルダック Golduck) is a Water Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Psyduck starting at level 33.
It evolves from Psyduck starting at level 33.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Golduck is a blue, bipedal, duck, or platypus-like Pokémon. It has red eyes, a cream-colored beak, a red gem in the center of its forehead, and four spikes on the back of its head. Its hands and feet all have three clawed digits with cream-colored webbing in between. Its body is specially adapted to have a hydrodynamic shape, and it has a long tail that it uses as a rudder to steer. Golduck is sometimes mistaken for the Japanese monster, and the physical inspiration for Golduck, the Kappa (folklore) due to its general humanoid shape, beak, and webbed hands and feet.
Golduck have webbed hands and feet, ending in broad flippers, which they use to swim in rivers and lakes, much in the way as a duck would move. Their blue bodies are especially adapted to have a great hydrodynamic shape, and they have long tails with which they use to steer. Due to their bluish color and webbed hands and feet, Golduck are sometimes mistaken for the Japanese monster and physical inspiration for Golduck, the Kappa (folklore). Golduck also have red irises, a small, red sphere on their forehead, and four spikes on their head. Though Golduck have no wings, only webbed hands and feet, it is still deemed as a duck instead of a platypus.

Gender differences
Golduck is a fast swimmer, capable of out-swimming even the most athletic of humans because of its webbed appendages. Even rough seas do not hamper this Pokémon's swimming abilities, and it will sometimes rescue people from shipwrecks. The TCG depicts Golduck with the ability to shoot massive jets of water form both of its hands simultaneously, using them to propel itself underwater. The gem on its forehead glows when it uses its psychic powers, and occasionally when it swims at full speed. In the past, this Pokémon was overhunted due to the belief that the gem granted people supernatural powers. As seen in Pokémon Adventures, Golduck has the ability to give knowledge to its Trainer and fellow Pokémon through telepathy. Golduck can typically be seen swimming in List of Pokémon by habitat, where it hunts fish. The prey is disabled, captured, and then brought to shore for consumption. Old tales claim Golduck punishes those who defile their rivers by dragging them in and taking them away. As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, Golduck is known to paddle its webbed limbs while sleeping. It is believed Golduck is dreaming about swimming.
None.

Special abilities
Prior to Generation V, Golduck and its pre-evolved form, Psyduck, were the only known Pokémon that could have Cloud Nine as an Ability.
Golduck are fast swimmers, outswimming even the most athletic of humans because of their frog-like webbed hands and feet. The gem on their foreheads glows when they use their psychic powers, and occasionally when they swim at full speed, suggesting that they sometimes use those powers to swim.

Behavior
<gallery>
It has been noted that Golduck will often join swimmers when training. They are sometimes found rescuing people lost at sea from danger, their heads shimmering from the telekinetic powers that allow them do so. The headaches that ridiculed its Basic evolution form, Psyduck, don’t trouble Golduck, allowing them to have full use of their formidable mental powers.

Habitat
Evolution
Golduck evolves from Psyduck.
Golduck live in fresh-water lakes and in rivers, though they can also be seen occasionally in coastal waters.

Trivia
Trivia
*In some of its Pokédex entries, it mentions Golduck using telekinetic powers. Despite this, it is not a Psychic, but it can learn a few Psychic-type moves.
**Golduck, along with its pre-evolution, couldn't learn Psychic through TM until Generation IV, even though the TM itself existed in every generation.
*Golduck's Platinum sprites are the only ones that show it with a hooked bill, though its Sugimori artwork also shows this. Its HeartGold and SoulSilver sprite also shows this, although not as clearly.
*The red jewel that is found on Golduck's head is not depicted on its card from the Fossil (TCG) set.
Origin
Origin
Golduck's physical appearance has aspects of a duck, a duck-billed platypus, and Kappa (mythical creature) - water imps from Japanese folklore.
Golduck's appearance has aspects of a duck, a platypus, and a Kappa (folklore).

Name origin
Name origin
Golduck, in both Japanese and English, is a portmanteau of gold and duck, despite the fact that it is blue, not gold, in color.
Golduck may be a combination of gold and duck. While Golduck itself is not colored gold, gold is often used to Gold (color)#Parapsychology: the Gummi is the Gummi variety loved by Psychic-type Pokémon, and the Marsh's Japanese name is "Gold Badge".
