[[Pokémon Trainer]]s often come to Blackthorn City in order to win the [[Badge#Rising Badge|Rising Badge]] from [[Clair]], the Blackthorn [[Gym Leader]] who specializes in {{type2|Dragon}} [[Pokémon]].

==Places of interest==

A Move Deleter is located in the southern part of the city, to the left of the Pokémon Mart. Although not a hugely important place to visit, the Move Deleter is helpful for deleting moves that can't be deleted otherwise, such as HMs, or moves that can't be traded to Generation I games.

He is a very forgetful man that lives alone in a house next to the [[Pokémon Mart]] in the city. For no charge, they will make a [[Pokémon]] forget a [[move]] it knows. This is the only way for a Pokémon to forget [[HM]] moves such as {{m|Cut}} or {{m|Fly}}. In order to delete an HM move, one must first have another Pokémon with that same move in order for it to be deleted.

The move deleter's service was also used to delete moves exclusive to the second generation so that Pokémon could be traded to [[Generation I]] games via the [[Time Capsule]].

A clan of masters of {{type2|Dragon}} Pokémon have lived in the city for generations. The masters built the [[Dragon's Den]], a cavern with an underground lake that contains a shrine to Dragon Pokémon, as well as the elders of the Dragon clan. The entrance is located behind the gym, across a small pond, while the main cavern seems to be located underneath the city itself.

Many strong {{pkmn|trainer}}s can be found within the cavern. The Master of the Dragon User Clan is located here, and he will quiz the player on their attitude towards and treatment of their Pokémon. Correct answers will be rewarded, in {{v2|Crystal}}, with a {{p|Dratini}} that knows {{m|ExtremeSpeed}}. {{ga|Silver}} can be found here, contemplating his training some days of the week, and [[Clair]] will visit to reward the player with the {{Badge|Rising}} she refused to award in the [[Blackthorn Gym|Gym]], as well as [[TM 24]].

It is inaccessible before defeating [[Clair]] in the [[Blackthorn Gym]], as it is blocked off by a man in front of the cave, and then it must be traversed to finally obtain the {{badge|Rising}}.

===Ice Path===

The [[Ice Path]] is the only way into the town from the north. [[Route 45]] is also reachable from the south of Blackthorn, but the steep mountain path means it can be used as an exit only. It is known for its numerous ice puzzles, which vary in size and difficulty. The Ice Cave is famous for its rare {{p|Jynx}}, but it has many other Pokémon as well. It is the only place in [[Johto]] where {{pkmn2|wild}} {{p|Swinub}}, {{p|Jynx}} and {{p|Delibird}} can be caught.

Blackthorn City's population is 27. This high number is due, in part, to the existence of a Dragon Clan residing in the city.
