[[Pokémon Trainer]]s must journey to Azalea Town in order to win the [[Badge#Hivebadge|Hivebadge]] from [[Bugsy]], the Azalea [[Gym Leader]] who specializes in {{t|Bug}}-type [[Pokémon]].

===Charcoal kiln===

Near the gym is a small house that houses the Pokémon world's only [[Charcoal]] kiln. The kiln is owned by a family that handles not only the production of the Charcoal, but also the collection of the necessary materials. To acquire the wood necessary for the Charcoal, the family uses a {{p|Farfetch'd}} to {{m|Cut}} down trees in Ilex Forest. The wood is then treated in the kiln and turned into Charcoal, which is then sold at the local [[Poké Mart]], making Charcoal the only type-enhancing [[Held items|held item]] that can be freely purchased, albeit at a high price.

Kurt specializes in making custom Poké Balls specifically designed to work more effectively against specific types of Pokémon. The ball that Kurt makes depends on the [[Apricorn]] that is given to Kurt by trainers. The [[White Apricorn]] is located behind his house while two other groups of Apricorns can be found on [[Route 36]] and [[Route 42]], both near [[Ecruteak City]].

{{p|Slowpoke}} may not be considered to be an important Pokémon outside of Azalea, but in this small southern Johto town, Slowpoke are placed in high regard and are revered by the community. This is shown by the existence of the Slowpoke Well in the northeast corner of town near the entrance to [[Route 33]]. The small well opening leads to an expansive two-level cave heavily populated with Slowpoke located underneath Azalea.

==Notes==

*According to legends in the town, the {{m|Yawn}} of a Slowpoke causes rain. 400 years ago, a drought in Azalea Town ended right when a {{p|Slowpoke}} yawned.

*In [[Generation II]], when the main character arrives in the town, the citizens are in an uproar because the local population of Slowpoke have vanished. The Slowpoke were being held captive in the [[Slowpoke Well]] by [[Team Rocket]]. Team Rocket was cutting off the Slowpoke's tails and selling them as delicacies. After Team Rocket was defeated, the Slowpoke returned and can again be found all over the town.

Azalea Town's population is 18. This makes it one of the smallest cities in Johto.
