Well...sort of, in the sense they're both 'squarey'. If Pokemon in My Pokemon Ranch look like origami, does that mean Porygon will look normal? Bttsstewart 13:54, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Is there actually any support for this paper crane theory? As far as I can see, the similarities are marginal, at best. The Japanese sources I've checked make no mention of a connection to a paper crane, and just talk about the English word "polygon". Unless someone has a reference for this, I'm changing the Origin section back. --Sensei Hanzo (talk) 15:16, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Isn't it ironic that when transfered to Gold and Silver that Porygon is holding a bitter berry? Ordelore (talk) 16:09, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

:Do you care to explain your reasoning? I don't see how this is ironic at all. Do you mean because it's electronic and therefore can't taste? Because I'd say (a) that's really more coincidental than ironic, and (b) it's also completely trivial and isn't worth adding to the article. == Japanese name ==
In my Japanese version of Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon names are romanized when caught and for ポリゴン it says Polygon, not Porygon. Unless other official Japanese sources say Porygon, I think this needs to be corrected on the page --Snugglefox (talk) 10:42, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
:Other official Japanese sources do say Porygon. We wouldn't have it that way if they didn't. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:21, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
"20 years prior"
According to the Japanese exclusive Pocket Monsters Encyclopedia, Porygon was created in 1995, and it would seem nescient to gloss over this piece of information if you ask me. Inkster
Technically yes but that's more of a trivia comment. If you ask me. Necrozma800 (talk) 05:42, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
Rubber Duck Debugging,
Hey so this isn’t going to be ever added on the Origins page (at least by me) but something I find amusing is that Porygon (though mainly Porygon2) remotely resemble rubber ducks, specifically the ones used for debugging (wprubber duck debugging being the term). The main issue with this is that the term wasn’t coined until the book known as The pragmatic programmer : from journeyman to master which wasn’t published until 1999, the same year as Gold and Silver. So unless there is some weirdly unspoken shared origin, this is nothing more than a coincidence or a niche that Porygon just happens to fill for future narratives in the Pokémon world. I also just find it an amusing factoid to share to everyone here. That’d all!
