Humans under Pecharunt's control have purple eyes and are surrounded by a purple aura. The controlled humans also hold their arms while performing a chicken dance-like movement, repeating the word "mochi" constantly. However, in some cases like with Hideko, it is shown that the possessed human can still speak somewhat freely, though it may simply be Pecharunt influencing the propagation of the mochi among humans. Humans under its influence are often still prone to innate emotion and desires - Arven is visibly embarrassed while dancing, Penny instinctively combines the word "mochi" with "Veevee", and Nemona still expresses a strong urge to battle, being able to morph "mochi" into "match". It can even command humans or even Pokémon to fight for it in battles. Pecharunt is capable of controlling multiple humans at once. It relies on others to fight for it due to its size. However, Pecharunt will fight back if its mind-controlled minions fail it. Capturing Pecharunt will free those under its control with no memories of being controlled. Pecharunt's mochis's effect on people are likened by Kieran to a curse.

An obscure legend has it that Pecharunt was adopted by an elderly childless couple in a distant land. In an attempt to make its adoptive parents love it even more, it fed them its Binding Mochi, which caused them to grow greedy and demand more and more gifts from it. Eventually, they asked Pecharunt to bring them Ogerpon's masks, and it agreed. After a long journey where it met and bound the Loyal Three to its service, they stole three of the masks. However, the Loyal Three were defeated by Ogerpon and Pecharunt was forced into a deep slumber. It was knocked deep into the forest, only being discovered many years later. It is said it still seems to fulfil its caretakers' wishes, even though they are most likely long dead.

Pecharunt is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Malignant Chain. It is also the only known Pokémon that can have Poison Puppeteer as an Ability.
