I pretty sure it's abilities refer to the cytoplasm, as it serves as a protective barrier for a cell's organelles. I'll keep in the Homunculus part when I edit, because it still is a possibility. Actually, I'm now convinced it has inspiration from the homunculus with so much evidence to back it up, but I feel that the cell part should be mentioned first, as it's pre-evolutions have nothing to do with homunculi. I seriously doubt it's based off that bug, though. I feel like removing that, as all the evidence I see to back it up just seems to be stuff that backs up a cell. Actually, it even makes it seem more like it took inspiration from a gummy bear. I also don't see it's resemblance to Reuniclus when it curls up. Is it worth noting that reuniclus' family line is the only one capable of learning thunder,but not thunderbolt? It's probably to contrast with gothitelle's family line who can learn thunderbolt but not thunder,but that characteristic is shared with so many other pokemon.
