Revision as of 14:22, 2 May 2020

Wild Area News is a feature in Pokémon Sword and Shield that expands on the available Max Raid Battles in the Wild Area, making certain Pokémon more common for a limited time. It can be accessed via Mystery Gift or updated automatically by connecting to the internet in game. Wild Area News typically spawn different Max Raid Battles depending on the game version. Certain species of Gigantamax Pokémon, which are usually very rare, are often made more common through Wild Area News events. These events are also currently the only way to obtain Gigantamax Snorlax, Gigantamax Toxtricity, and most forms of Gigantamax Alcremie. Additionally, during the Wild Area News events, certain Pokémon such as Mewtwo sometimes cannot be captured.

Any den can spawn a Max Raid Battle from Wild Area News. Dens that do so will always emit a red beam, indicating the "common" pool.

List of Max Raid Battles

The following lists, in reverse chronological order, the encounter rates for Max Raid Battles from different Wild Area News events.

April 28 to May 11, 2020

Among other Pokémon, Tyranitar, Togekiss, Rotom and Dragapult became available for this event.[1]

For a portion of the first day of this round of news, ★ Drilbur raids originating from Shield came with the illegal move Hydro Pump. The same raids for the rest of the event's duration, or from Sword, come with the correct move, Scratch. Players who caught a Drilbur with Hydro Pump cannot trade or battle online with it unless that move is deleted.

Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Squirtle, Wartortle, and Mewtwo, which do not normally appear in-game, became available for a limited time during Wild Area News, as part of a tie-in with Pokémon Day. The event also includes Charmander and Charmeleon. [6]

There are multiple Mewtwo slots, with each one knowing different moves; some based around Physical moves, and some based around Special moves.
