In [[SS018]], Ash registered for the Pokémon World Championships. His ranking as a newly entered Trainer was beyond the 10,000th place, so he decided to challenge another Normal Rank Trainer in order to increase his ranking, settling on [[Visquez]], the stand-in [[Gym Leader]] of the [[Vermilion Gym]]. After successfully defeating Visquez, Ash rose to the 3,763th place.
