There is a lot of controversy over this throughout the Internet. I've done a bit of research and it is, indeed, found using a Super Rod in Sekka City. It isn't, in fact, a water type, which most likely makes it the first pokemon obtained by rod without being water type. Dewott

Name origin
Fisk is danish for fish + a mix of fish and disk, and stun is just English. It all makes perfect sense. Jespoke

Stunfisk is the only Pokémon to be both immune and weak to its typing (Divdax 22:42, 19 June 2011 (UTC))
Fish weak to water?
Stunfisk is obviously a fish, and it lives most of the time underwater - but it's weak to Water-type moves. I think that should go in the trivia section. TheDoctorPotter (talk) 22:40, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
:Not notable. We're an encyclopedia; it's not our place to say what somebody thinks a particular Pokemon should or should not be weak to because of its basis. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 06:20, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Galar catch rate changed?
Anyone know if Stunfisk's catch rate is different in Pokemon Sword and Shield?  I just encountered my first one in Galar Mine No. 2, and it escaped from over 10 Dusk Balls, half without even a single bounce!  Here's the conditions under which it happened:
* Dusk Ball modifier: 3.5x catch rate
* HP modifier: About 25% (~2.5x catch rate)
* No status conditions (1x modifier)
* Overall modifier: 8.75x
* (Unovan) Stunfisk minimum catch rate: 17.5%
* Estimated total catch rate: guaranteed
So CLEARLY something has changed since Gen VII.  Even if the RNG was against me and it should have only taken about 10 Dusk Balls to catch the darned thing, that's still an overall catch rate of 10%, implying Galarian Stunfisk's catch rate has been set at a (legendary) 3/255.
In other words, Stunfisk is still one of my least-favorite Pokemon, but for a different reason in Galar. --Stratelier 04:28, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
