Adding transfer-only moves to Pokedex pages

I don't know if I can word this better myself, so I'm going to quote Nescientist.

Sumwun and I believe that, for the moves, an additional section "By transfer from an earlier generation" would be sensible. (Please refer to User talk:Force Fire#Transfer-only moves and ability changes.) The addition of this subsection would enable users to tell what moves <species> can know (in <game/generation>) at one glance.
It's very well possible even Tiddlywinks is underestimating how difficult it is to answer the "know in <game/generation>" question (as much as I initially did). As Sumwun said at the referenced talk page, currently, you'd have to click at least up to 6 links to learnset pages, assuming you already know by heart how transfer works (and that you can't transfer Pokémon from GO by any means, which is what I actually doublechecked). And additionally, you might have to actually neglect irrelevant sections on learnset pages (for example, in USUM/GenVII, Bulbasaur cannot know AncientPower AFAIK). (If there's a faster method, I'd like to hear it.)
And I can't stress how important I think that question is, for I believe it is the central question to that species and learnset pages should be providing an answer to (the use case). It all boils down to that use case: in Tiddlywinks' words, what's the "concern" species/learnset pages try to address? I can't sketch a question/use case that would include "By events" but not "By transfer from a prior generation". (Well, for USUM, I can sketch the question "What moves can <species> with black clover know?", but that's arguably a "special" case, and probably comp-centric*.) I would like to know what you guys think that use case should be.
Regarding Tiddlywinks' comment about this coming from a "specific focus like comp/challenges", I took some time to think about that. Apart from the fact that I don't think the use case is comp-centric even, it is also not subjective, but purely factual, unlike the questions you said "we're never going to do" (and, by the way, I agree we shouldn't). For example, I recall that I once designed a team for my next playthrough, and I was searching possible moves for them. From context, I can recreate it must've been for XY before ORAS came out, because I wanted my Swinub to have a good Special Ground-type STAB and ended up breeding it in an earlier generation so I could teach it Earth Power via move tutor, then transfered (and traded) it to the new save file. I don't think that I ever was, in any point in time, trying to answer a question where I required all current subsections but not "By transfer from a prior generation".
I would like to know what you guys think that use case should be, and whether you think the suggestion subsection is sensible.

M11 on Hungama

So Hungama TV is releasing M11 for the first time in India as Giratina Aur Ek Mahaa Yodhha. See the promo here. It seems like Hungama will keep releasing new movies of Pokémon in India while Disney XD will keep releasing new seasons, series and episodes. Updated templates for LGPE

I wrote some code for existing templates, Template:Stats and Template:Pokémon/7 to be updated for LGPE, and left the test results on their respective Discussion pages. They're designed to use an optional field so pages that already have them won't be affected unless the field is included and set accordingly. Please take a look and let me know what you think. Pokémon XY: Road to Kalos

Hi. Road to Kalos is a special episode aired one week before XY001. It takes place on the plane Ash takes to Kalos and contains original scenes, as well as clips from previous series and a preview for the beginning of the XY series. Sorry I missed this out here in Bulbapedia before, but the ending credits of S08, S09 and S10 which aired on Disney XD India had different copyright years credited in the credits. They have the copyright years credited as ©2004-2016, ©2005-2016 and ©2006-2016 in the ending credits of S08, S09 and S10 respectively which is different from the US version. This indicates that Disney India have rights for all seasons in Pokémon up till XYZ (S19). They have also credited in it as "TM and ® are trademarks of Nintendo for Asian territories." which is again different from the US version. Is this notable enough for its inclusion in the SA page? --Yash Sen 15:35, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

All this says is that the dubs were made around 2016, I don't think think that really says much about the seasons through S19. The trademark line being different is also not surprising since TPCi doesn't have a presence in Asia including India. I think that all this implies that when the anime was licensed for airing in India, they simply updated the copyright and extended it up till 2016, or that was the year when the (re)licensing happened. It shouldn't necessarily be when the seasons were dubbed. Also, about the Asian territories line , it simply may have been added because these videos should be used in Asian countries only. → PikaTepig999 06:24, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Pokémon movies on Indian cinemas

M20 and Detective Pikachu are releasing in Indian cinemas on Feb 2, 2019 and May 10, 2019 respectively. This is the first time Pokémon movies are releasing in Indian theaters. Can you update SA page with this? Thanks in advance! --Yash Sen 15:56, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Detective Pikachu was expected to be released on the big screen, as it's not an anime movie, but rather a live action one and distributed by a large company like Warner Bros. May 10 is the worldwide release date for Detective Pikachu, after all. But it's nice to see that I Choose You will be getting a limited release as well. If the date is correct and it is releasing on February 2, then it will be the first time a Pokemon anime movie is releasing in theaters. Though, that page is only showing it as being released in English, so maybe we'll have to wait till it airs on television for the regional dubs. → PikaTepig999 06:36, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
That site shows the language of all the upcoming English movies which are yet to be released in India as English only even after they are released in Hindi and other regional languages too. List of Pokemon by availability

In general, the entries higher up on the key have higher priority than lower ones. For C and R in particular, catching is also the least restrained method of obtaining them, whereas a received Pokémon generally has a fixed level, moveset, and Poké Ball, for example. The Avail templates

Can you add these 2 options to the Avail templates?

Symbol Meaning
TC The Pokémon can be caught in-game after somehow interacting with another game.
TE The Pokémon cannot be caught in-game, but an earlier evolutionary stage can be obtained. It can be evolved into the Pokémon in this game by trading.

Examples for the first row include DPPt Spiritomb and Regigigas and ORAS Giratina. Examples for the second row include RBY Golem and GSC Politoed. I think it's important to distinguish these Pokemon from regular C Pokemon and E Pokemon. sumwun (talk) 16:27, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

I don't think the distinction is important enough to note with there being only a few cases where it's needed. Optimizing Images for Maps

Do you have a special way of compressing hi-def map images so they can be uploaded here? We recently have gotten a bunch of maps for SM/USUM done, but we need a method of compressing and resizing them to fit the file size limit. Thanks! TehPerson (talk) 02:52, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

I recommend using PNGGauntlet for compressing them. The Archives dimension limit is strictly 12.5 MP (12,500,000 pixels) so I would resize them to make sure the dimensions (width times height) is less than that before you compress them further. --Abcboy (talk) 02:03, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Luka's great-grandfather should be fine.
Leaning towards no for the news crew since they don't have names; if they had names in say the Japanese credits instead of just "REPORTER" and "CAMERA MAN" as in the English CCs, then it would be fine. Same idea for the island from EP060.
Misty Village should be good, the lighthouse depends on whether it's in the village or not; if it's inside or directly adjacent to it, then it should just be on the village's page. --Abcboy (talk) 02:03, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
I'm not sure about if the news crew were actually given names in the Japanese credits, and will have to find someone to look that up on my behalf.
I'll also combine the Misty Village and Mountain Lighthouse pages into one called "Misty Village", given that the Mountain Lighthouse lies close to the township itself.
With the unnamed island page, I thought that given that we have other unnamed island and forest pages for the Decolore Archipelago, and it was featured prominently in its respective episode that it was worth a page, but I'll not push for it to be mainspaced.

Pokemon voices

Something has come to my intention with some of the voices of some Pokemon. With Pokemon such as Mudsdale, who clearly don't have a voice actor, seeing as its cry comes from real horses, or horse-like sounds, should we list them as not having a voice actor? Because where their voices are meant to be listed, it seems like an empty space waiting to be added, but they might never be revealed, seeing as they might not have ever been voiced by anyone. Emmakazam22

Could you undo Emmakazam22's edit to SM110, listing Jessie and Meowth as narrating the title, which isn't right, seeing as this isn't how it has been listed on other pages. Meowth and Jessie only talk about the next episode and its title and Emmakazam22 added that even though I undid someone else who added Meowth to the list. I put something else on that users talk page a couple of weeks ago, and they haven't responded, so I don't think the user it listening to other people. I don't know if I acted soon, but right after I saw the Direct, I proceeded to make the link templates for Pokémon Sword and Shield:

Forum block, please help

I was just temporarily blocked from Bulbagarden Forums, and I was informed why (I had posted a piece of art that was considered inappropriate, although I obviously didn't know that it was considered inappropriate), but after that email, my other messages, pleading for my ten-day sentence to be shortened, have all gone unanswered. I consider this lack of replies extremely unfair. Can you help? I've understood what I did wrong and resolved to never do it again. Editorial Board?

In November 2017, User:Pumpkinking0192 undid my edit to the Villainous teams article which removed an inactive move proposal template that had been added there on March 18th of that year. He explained that only the Editorial Board could remove it and advised patience. Fair enough. However, over a year has passed since then and I see the move proposal template is still on the Villainous teams article with no indication that any action will be taken towards a move or the removal of the template. In less than three weeks, the template will have been on that article for two years. Is there any way to grease the gears of this bureaucracy, or is this a typical wait time?
To be clear, I have no preference one way or the other regarding the title of the Villainous teams article, but it bothers me that the template can stay up for so long and no one who has the power to resolve it does anything, while I am willing to remove the template right now yet lack the necessary permission to do so. Template wikicode question

I am writing a sandboxed version of the {{alldex}} row template for use on a draft article (User:Force Fire/List of Pokémon that appear in multiple regional Pokédex) that is currently nominated for mainspacing. I want this sandboxed version to take into account whether a non-numeric input (like --- or ???) is fed to any of its parameters.

On the current version in templatespace, whenever a non-numeric input is fed to the s= parameter, as in the following example:

This is because of the following numeric comparison statement being executed by the template to determine whether or not to append Pt to the Sdex number:

The comparison {{{s|001}}} > 151 crashes whenever s= is non-numeric. So, I want to modify my sandboxed copy of {{alldex}} to not execute the numeric comparison above unless the input is purely numeric.

I want to ask if there is a wikicode command (like {{#ifnum: {{{in|def}}}|out}} or similar) that I can use in my template to check whether the input is a number (positive, negative, etc.) and execute the output only upon meeting that numeric constraint. That way, I could have my template do this without crashing or returning error messages:

{{#ifnum: {{{s|001}}}|{{#ifexpr: {{{s|001}}} > 151|{{Sup/4|Pt}}}}}}

I could also use such a construct to tell the template to supress any {{tt|*|}} tooltips for non-numeric inputs (like ---, used to express that a Pokémon is not in that regional Pokédex), so that for the example above I get something like this:

I would recommend just changing the default display from 001 to --- so that the parameter can just be excluded as you've already done. The function you're looking for is probably #iferror but I don't think it's necessary for your purposes. --Abcboy (talk) 03:01, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I initially had that in mind when I first made this: {{User:SilSinn9801/alldex}}. But I think ForceFire would still prefer 001 as fallback value (as in the current templatespace version) so as to be somewhat compatible with the current version. It might be a good idea for staff to choose/​debate/​decide whether they would prefer to keep 001 as fallback (like Force Fire) or change it to --- as default (like my sandbox version) for the next update to alldex (which should happen whenever Pokémon Sword and Shield get released), and especially if at the same time that draft article by Force Fire is finally approved for mainspacing (if that ever happens). ​‑‑SilSinn (TIDs768426S123446UM💬 05:09, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

ForceFire updated the template, so now there is no need to manually type those --- values onto its call. But still there are a few quirks that need to be solved. Like this example:

See those Sups accompanying those output --- values? They should not be there if those Dex values are left undefined. My sandboxed copy of the template takes care of that by checking whether such parameters were supplied by the user before printing any Sups, and it also checks whether a pair of old/new Udex (or Adex) values are equal (or not) before printing any tooltips. But I cannot incorporate such measures to the official template because Force Fire protected it (it was unprotected and being transcluded only onto two articles and this talk page, so how could it suddenly become a high-traffic page?), so I was asking if either you or Force Fire could take a look into this and either update the template with code from my sandboxed copy (or replace the template with my sandboxed version by moving my page over the official one, whichever path is more comfortable to you). Problematic User.

Dear Abcboy,

I am appealing to you for assistance. I have requested the indefinite blocking of GrammarFreak01 on account of the user’s edit stalking behaviour, the failure to adhere to staff warnings and blocks because of strings of useless edits. I have been on this platform for the past year and have made significant additions to the many anime sections including plot rewrites, new plots, character sections to recurring characters and stub removal. Majority of my edits, which do not require any significant changes, are typically changed by the end of the day by GrammarFreak01. Be it either a word change to a synonym, deleting gaps, changing the way apostrophes look, switching information around, and in some cases erroneously putting in misinformation for episode pages on almost every single one of my edits. This user typically edits other user’s edits and rarely makes contributions to a page’s information, aside from Voice Actor pages. I am not the first and only to be targeted, Mikuri and Erika124 have been affected also, but I have brought this issue up with ForceFire several times and my calls for GrammarFreak01 to be indefinitely blocked on this platform have not occurred. This behaviour is intimidating and not collaborative in any sense, and for many including myself they find that they no longer wish to contribute to the platform because their edits will simply be altered unnecessarily. I think their tendency to make such insignificant edits in such large numbers is concerning for another reason, but I don't see why a particular user would be discouraged or indimidated by them. I have asked GrammarFreak01 on multiple occasions to stop the edit stalking on multiple occasions, but he continues to not acknowledge these concerns and also continues the behavior that is causing tension. If it were one here and there, and especially a new page, that would be different, but that isn't the case, it is every single edit and within minutes (in many cases) that he will have made an unnecessary change to a page and the particular portions I have just edited. I have edited hundreds of pages, and more often than not GrammarFreak01 will make some unnecessary contribution soon after. I want the edit stalking to end immediately. My statement isn't up for debate. This behavior has been going on for over a year, with plenty of evidence in my edit history, discussion page, GrammarFreak01's discussion page and ForceFire's page as well. GrammarFreak01 has admitted to ForceFire that he has been keeping tabs on my edits. Plus his editing habits suggest that he isn't just editing the most recent contributions and does look through my edit history. rolls from Annice Moriarty

Hello While I did leave a message on Force Fire's talk, I'm not sure if he/she will see it. So I am letting you know of this too: I'm going to correct some rolls for characters voiced by Annice Moriarty. I will base these edits purely on two things,

  • Annice Moriarty and Kether Donohue are two separate individuals.
  • The Galactic Battles DVDs, where the credits are shown.

I also wish to know where it was that people got the information from that said that Annice Moriarty is Kether Donohue. I've looked all over the internet, but cannot find anything at all save an IMDB page on Donohue. IMDB is unreliable for pseudonyms and Donohue's website no longer exists, so there's no verification of sources there. There are other factors I will disregard as they give me a bit of a bias in the matter, and I will do my best not to make edits on those grounds, such as Moriarty's biographic info. I will also warn you guys about pseudonyms, using this important example of a long-held belief that turned out to be wrong. I have 3 names for you:

  • Allyson Johnson (Agatha)
  • Kathleen Delaney (Rouge the Bat from 4kids era Sonic the Hedgehog)
  • Caren Manuel (previously believed to have voiced both Rouge and Agatha)

Many places (Bulbapedia included) believed that Manuel voiced Agatha and Rouge, until it turned out that that info was wrong. I plan on making edits based on credits, because if I base it on anything else my bias will come in. So I guess I'm asking two things: 1. Show me a source that links Kether Donohue to Annice Moriarty, apart from voices and apart from them being in the same shows. There are rolls that Moriarty has done in shows that Donohue has never been in, and vice versa. If I had to guess as to the root of the belief, I would guess either of two things:

  • Both have provided the voice for Lila, albet in different stages of her life.
  • Both have similar enough sounding voices.

Full desclosure I am the sister of MOriarty, hence why I would have a bias, and hence why I wish to only edit what I can find in the credits of the actual episodes. I want this confusion cleared up because then if I can see sources, I can better understand where the information came from then I can judge it upon that as opposed to me just knowing Annie. We lived appart for most of our lives, as I stayed in Uganda and she moved to NY when she was 12, so we didn't interact on a regular basis. Still, I will do everything I can to make sure my bias doesn't show. S oI will simply ask for the source so I can examine it. When you and Force Fire make a determination, please keep in mind the Caren Manuel/Kathleen Delaney/Allyson Johnson thing, and please keep in mind that just because two people sound similar, that doesn't mean they are the same person. I also present Christopher Kromer and Matthew Charles, who also have been confused for each other in the past. Sorry for any typing errors, I am a fast typer. Hope to hear from you soon. Please, if nothing else, I want some non-IMDB sources, because IMDB, which is unreliable is the only one I could find.

Also remember, just because it's a long-held and long-uncontested belief, that doesn't mean it's true. I think Allyson Johnson, Kathleen Delaney and Caren Manuel can tell you that. Oh yea another Pokemon example I can think of where a long-held belief happened was Megan Hollingshead vs. Lee Quick (Officer Jenny). or Megan Hollingshead vs. Emily Niebo (computer in second Pokemon Movie thanks.

Aromatherapy

As it has been stated many times before, moves need to be named or have to have a unique animation, so why did a user add the recurring Shaymin in the anime as one who has used the move? I keep having to tell people like Finnishpokefan that moves need to be stated, but they keep adding them despite this and then add them back when they've been removed for not being stated. I do not start edit wars with you anymore, but this still frustrates me: it's clearly a move that Shaymin can learn which cures status conditions. Aromatherapy fits that bill perfectly. Closed captions have now confirmed that the move Shaymin used in SM118 was indeed Aromatherapy. However, for some reason, Force Fire considers SM134 as the move's debut episode, despite SM118 being chronologically the first episode where it was used. He claims that the first instance the move is called out counts as the debut, which I strongly disagree with. I say the first chronological instance should be the one to count, since closed captions are considered a reliable enough source for disputed move confirmation. Yesterday, I created articles for the three original fishing rods, and today, I've spent a lot of time fixing appropriate links to lead to those pages. However, links to those rods are very common, plus the biggest hurdle of all, which is fixing all the links on the Pokémon species articles, still lies ahead. But just now, Suic12- (talkcontribs) came to my talk page and suggested that BulbaBot could tackle the task. Is it true that you're in charge of the bot? Could you do something to help with this big link conversion project?

I would rather have the files of the Japanese magazine version versus the Volume Version be taken out of the page for the Electric Tale of Pikachu. Although the file is helpful it is also quite racy to be honest, and as a site frequented by kids I feel that this probably isn't a good file to have on hand. Situation

Hello, Abcboy. How are you doing today? FinnishPokéFan92 and I have a problem. It’s the episodes. When SM117 came out in the dub, I was able to watch it. Then when Team Rocket showed up and stolen Sandy, Meltan and Shaymin and got out soon after, Shaymin used Aromatherapy to heal Sandy in that episode even though nobody said it, but it was revealed in closed captions. Similar to Kiawe's Marowak's moves. We talked to Force Fire about this, but no luck. And I always have proof about the attacks and never give wrong info. what does HS stand for

I innitially thought that it was "Hoenn special, " but that would be stupid because the only one of those that my research shows me takes place in Hoenn is We're No Angels! with training days is a bit ambiguous as to which region it is set in as it shows mostly flashbacks, so it could be Kanto, it could be Johto or it could be Hoenn. At best you got two specials set in Hoenn if you count HS12 as being set in Hoenn, with the rest of Chronicle sbeing set exclusively in Kanto and Johto. I believe CVI Islands are part of it too. So I'm not sure what HS would stand for since Hoenn special makes 0 sense given that at best 2 of 18 are set in Hoenn. African Vulture (talk) 03:28, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Your opinion

Hi, I'd like to have your (personal, non-binding) input on a few things:

  1. For interwiki links, if there's a redirect at another wiki that redirects to a section on some other page that wiki, do you prefer to interwiki that redirect, the section, or not at all? Example: for Great Ball, would you link it:Mega Ball, it:Poké Ball#Mega Ball, or nothing Italian? (I'm just wondering what you and/or BulbaBot would prefer and why, I certainly don't mean to go fix links.)
  2. Do you know whether it is common for (early) Japanese Pokémon names to have alternate spellings? Do you think alternate spellings are notable? (Concrete case: Nishida said she designed "スピア" rather than スピアー, for example, and I wonder what to do with that.)
  3. Why does Template:DL have a third param, or why should it have? Is there any benefit (well, apart from it being actually used that way now, I guess)? I guess what I'm asking is: Do you see any reason why the third param was added in the first place? Why should anyone use {{DL|A|B|C}} rather than [[A#B|C]]? (I hope you get what I mean.)

  1. BulbaBot will automatically attempt to change an interwiki link to a redirect to the destination of that redirect, even if it's to a section. (This does mean that if it-wiki creates a page at it:Mega Ball, it will find a conflict between the two pages and not automatically correct it.)
  2. We know a lot of the Pokémon had codenames and even different names entirely. That particular case seems more like a typo to me, honestly.
  3. Parallelism in a list of other section links using DL, perhaps; in general the plain link for cases like that is much clearer IMO. --Abcboy (talk) 15:19, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

  2. Are you talking about Generation I Japanese names that predate the release of Red and Green? If so, can you point me somewhere? I think I never heard that, even less saw a list. It's very obvious for Gen II by the Spaceworld demo, but for Generation I (..and I'm about to look for some helixchamber articles again to see if I'm mistaken), weren't the names often fixed before the designs??? (Since that Nishida site was first captured in Jan 1998, yes, スピア could easily just be a typo.)
