A Channeler (Japanese: きとうし Shaman) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that have only appeared in the Generation I games and their remakes. They are generally depicted as Shinto priestesses. They scared people away from Pokémon Tower and were possibly unwittingly helping Team Rocket make their base in the tower. Their strange behavior when challenging the player and their subsequent reaction after being defeated seems to imply that they were possessed by the ghosts they used while battling. In fact, some Channelers apologize after battle, saying "I was possessed!" when spoken to.

They specialize in Ghost-type Pokémon, specifically Gastly and Haunter.

In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, Channelers battled outside of Gyms will award three Poké Balls along with prize money.

In Pokémon Stadium, they are known as Mediums, which may lead to a confusion with a similar Trainer class introduced later. They wear white robes and carry Gohei to help channel spirits.
