Defense Halved?
Defense Halved?
I don't recall ever hearing about defense being halved by this move in Generation I before I read it here, and from my experience I don't think it sounds right.  That would make it actually stronger than SelfDestruct in this Generation.  Could anyone verify this? : I'm also doubting that information... Where does this defense lowered thing come from? <font color="000000">Neo <small>QWERTY</small></font> 18:35, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
: I found this thread which seems to refute the idea of Hyper Beam halving defense. I'll do some testing on my own; I really doubt it halves defense, though. --MaskedFalcon 15:42, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
::Hyper Beam was also a Physical move early on, although I don't know which generation it became Special. :::In the first three gens, physicality/specialty is tied to type. All Normal moves, then, are physical.
:::I haven't had the time to test this move but will soon. One pretty good test would be to raise a Persian with Slash and Hyper Beam. If Hyper Beam truly halves defense, it should do more than double Slash's damage. MaskedFalcon 16:13, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
::::Tested with a level 29 Dragonite (83 atk) and a level 100 Mew (220 def). Slam did 8 points of damage to Mew. Hyper Beam dealt 16. Confirmed that it does not halve defense. - EkanselttaR
Lance
Should it be noted somewhere that it is the signature move of Lance? Don Lark Kiin
:No. Just because a certain trainer commonly uses a move does not mean that it is 'his signature move'. If you would like to know the correct usage of the term Signature move, please look here thank you. --<span style="color:gold">GEN</span>1<span style="color:gold">KING</span> 07:49, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
:: Here's the funny part. Gym Leaders and Elite Four in Red/Green/Blue do have "signature moves", or at least a move on their last Pokémon that differentiates it from a wild one of its species. Brock's Onix uses Bide, Misty's Starmie uses Bubblebeam, and so forth. So if you're willing to stretch the definition of signature move, Lance does have one, but it's not what you'd expect. It's his Dragonite's Barrier! MaskedFalcon 00:28, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Error
In the section where pokemon use Hyper Beam, for Regirock, there is only movie 8 and Brandon's Regirock. There is no wild Regirock in DP 129, its under the ownership of Brandon...Chomi 10:06, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Lethal
In the episode Stopped in the Name of Love, Dawn implies that Hyper Beam is lethal, as by using Bide to reflect the Ariados attack. Is this potentially worth mentioning? == Still not final stage ==
It Says: "Dratini, Larvitar, Remoraid, Trapinch, Metang, and Klink are the only Pokémon that can learn Hyper Beam without reaching their final evolutionary stage." Could not Dragonair, Pupitar, Vibrava and Klang be added? BrasilLucasSant 00:32, 14 August 2012 (UTC-3)
:I'd say so. <font color="Red">Cu</font><font color="Tan">bo</font><font color="Green color light">ne</font><font color="Black">King</font> 04:08, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Sound effect
Not sure if this happens with other attacks but I noticed that the sound effect for Hyper Beam in Battle Revolution sounds similar if not identical to the sfx of shadow moves from XD: Gale of Darkness. Would it be notable to put this in the trivia?Nikuriku (talk) 09:17, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
:The animations of many moves in PBR are more or less identical to how they appear in XD, and the same goes for sound effects. It wouldn't be notable. VioletPumpkin (talk) 12:23, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
