This discussion may have ended two years ago, but I feel it should continue because I'm still not convinced that these unofficial numbers are necessary. It is very misleading to give Pokémon like Mewtwo a Hoenn number when that Pokémon isn't in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is even more confusing when there is an asterisk saying it is "not shown" right next to the number, which is self-contradictory. If someone wonders the hacked Hoenn number of the Pokémon, just calculate 202 + National Number - previous Hoenn Dex Pokémon such as Pikachu. Those numbers are only shown once, which is on the Pokédex registration screen. The status screen doesn't show the number and when you check your Pokédex, you can't find it. It is just a filler number. Official Pokémon should stick to official numbers, not glitch numbers. Otherwise we would have zeroes for the Sinnoh Dex number of every Pokémon that isn't in the Sinnoh Dex. I think the Hoenn numbers for these Pokémon should be blank. Having the numbers there just cause confusion. [[User:SeanWheeler|SeanWheeler]] ([[User talk:SeanWheeler|talk]]) 22:39, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
:Oh, wait a minute, those asterisks aren't there any more, the number is just underlined. Without the asterisk, it is even more confusing. [[User:SeanWheeler|SeanWheeler]] ([[User talk:SeanWheeler|talk]]) 22:47, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

I know that in Emerald, no Pokemon outside the Hoenn Pokedex can be traded in until the player receives the National Pokedex.  I have found it impossible to trade in a Mewtwo from Ruby, even though according to the {{p|Mewtwo}} page it is in the Hoenn Pokedex.  Although Pokemon are hacked into the games are given a number, there is a distinct boundary between those which are in the first 202. Yeah, just like I posted at the top of the page. Those extra numbers cause confusion. [[User:SeanWheeler|SeanWheeler]] ([[User talk:SeanWheeler|talk]]) 22:42, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
== Fairy Types? ==
Seeing how the Hoenn Pokemon are getting a remake for Gen 6, shouldn't the retconned Fairy types (Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, Azurill, Marill, Azumarill, Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir) have their new typings for this respective dex? {{Unsigned|Bluekirbystar}}
:We should, but there's a possibility that the dex could be changed (like the one for Johto when HeartGold and SoulSilver was released). Also, please sign your posts with <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> whenever you edit a talk page. [[User:UxieLover1994|UxieLover1994]] ([[User talk:UxieLover1994|talk]]) 20:30, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
::This was the Hoenn Pokédex number as it was in Gen III. They weren't fairy types in Gen III, so the page should remain the same for now. :::Besides if the Hoenn Pokédex is the same as Gen III, then a trivia piece will be useful to help with that issue which is what I did for the Kanto Pokédex regarding the Magnemite and Magneton difference for FireRed and LeafGreen since I couldn't modify the template back then and chose to write a trivia piece instead for that purpose. Personally it is best to wait to see how this outcome out first officially. -[[User:Tyler53841|Tyler53841]] ([[User talk:Tyler53841|talk]]) 02:10, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
::::Now that Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire are announced should the types be changed? Or should we wait to see whether the Hoenn Dex is the same or in the same order? --[[User:AndyPKMN|AndyPKMN]] [[User talk:AndyPKMN|(talk)]] 01:06, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
:::::Best to wait on this since it is unknown at this moment if they would add in new Pokémon to the Hoenn Dex. -[[User:Tyler53841|Tyler53841]] ([[User talk:Tyler53841|talk]]) 02:14, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
::::::Actually, wouldn't this just be renamed as the RSE Dex, just like the name GSC Dex for the Generation II Johto Dex?  {{Unsigned|Super goku}}
==Page Move in the Future?==
If anyone watched the recent official Nintendo video regarding the Gym Leaders and Elite Four since it looks like {{p|Dusknoir}} was seen as one of [[Phoebe]]'s Pokémon it looks like Nintendo will be creating a new Hoenn Pokédex in the future. Once the official conformation is confirmed it will be likely this page may need to moved to something like the Old Hoenn Pokédex or something. I'll gladly wait this out and see what happens in the future. But anyway I am sure glad that Force Fire locked this page down to avoid any speculation problems. -[[User:Tyler53841|Tyler53841]] ([[User talk:Tyler53841|talk]]) 05:26, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
== ORAS numbers. ==
As seen [http://www.pokemonrubysapphire.com/en-us/cool-features/the-pokemon-contest-spectacular/the-pokemon-contest-spectacular here], Pikachu is #163, Milotic is #146 and Salamence is #198. Note that all have been bumped up. [[User:Eridanus|Eridanus]] ([[User talk:Eridanus|talk]]) 16:08, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
:While it wasn't easy to find I confirmed it so it looks like this page will have to be moved in the future since it looks like HGSS there will be some changes in the Pokédex such as what I said earlier about Dusknoir being one of Phobe's Pokémon. Pretty much I say that once the new numbering is confirmed then I agree that this page should be moved to make way for the new numbering. -[[User:Tyler53841|Tyler53841]] ([[User talk:Tyler53841|talk]]) 16:22, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
::With HG/SS, we moved the Generation II page to "New Pokédex" because it was an established alternate name. We didn't have that option for B2/W2, hence the unofficial term "New Unova Pokédex" was used for that listing. Because the R/S/E listing and the OR/AS listing are both known as the Hoenn Pokédex, the article for the updated list should call it the "New Hoenn Pokédex" per the Unova precedent. [[User:Bwburke94|Bwburke94]] ([[User talk:Bwburke94|talk]]) 15:32, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
::: Would tacking "(RSE)" into the end if the article name work for the old list if there's no official new name for the Hoenn Pokedex? Even if there's precedent, using "new Hoenn Pokedex" when it's not the official name seems misleading. [[User:Yamiidenryuu|Yamiidenryuu]] ([[User talk:Yamiidenryuu|talk]]) 18:15, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
:::: If it is really a problem, why not just call this page the RSE Dex?  This list is still and will always be accurate to the Generation III games.  --[[User:Super goku|Super goku]] ([[User talk:Super goku|talk]]) 01:43, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
==Page Move discussion==
Now that the game has been released and it has been mentioned that 9 new Pokémon are being added, all Generation IV Pokemon connected with Pokemon from the Hoenn region Dex I recommend this page be moved to a new location and the new Hoenn dex listing takes over for this page due to reasons. A. It will be too messy just like what happened before with HeartGold and SoulSilver for Johto and Black 2 and White 2 for Unova. B. The Gen VI addition of the Fairy type and the Hoenn Dex Pokemon that are connected to it. For my collection of these Pokemon so far: Gallade #32, Budew #97 and Chingling #157. {{unsigned|Tyler58431}}
:I personally think the RSE should be in parenthesis at the end of the title instead of replacing "Hoenn", because it was called the Hoenn Dex in Generation III. [[User:SeanWheeler|SeanWheeler]] ([[User talk:SeanWheeler|talk]]) 17:04, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
::The ORAS Pokédex page has been named [[List of Pokémon by New Hoenn Pokédex number]]. I personally think the RSE Pokédex could remain as the main Hoenn Dex. But I don't know. Will we keep the ORAS listing as New Hoenn? [[User:SeanWheeler|SeanWheeler]] ([[User talk:SeanWheeler|talk]]) 15:39, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
:::I thinking it should be left as is. RSE Pokédex is not an official name, Hoenn Pokédex is. Hoenn and New Hoenn are as close to official as we can get. --[[User:HoennMaster|<font color="blue">Hoenn</font>]][[User talk:HoennMaster|<font color="green">Master</font>]] 09:02, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
::::Anyone else have an opinion? Or should we remove the move tag? [[User:SeanWheeler|SeanWheeler]] ([[User talk:SeanWheeler|talk]]) 17:08, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
:::::I think they should be "List of Pokémon by Hoenn Pokédex number (Generation III)" and "List of Pokémon by Hoenn Pokédex number (Generation VI)". --[[User:SnorlaxMonster|<span style="color:#A70000">'''Snorlax'''</span>]][[User talk:SnorlaxMonster|<span style="color:#0000A7">'''Monster'''</span>]] 08:18, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
::::::Using the actual game abbreviation rather than that of the generation would however also open the possibility for consistency across same-generation games, like "List of Pokémon by Unova Pokédex number (BW)" and "List of Pokémon by Unova Pokédex number (BW2)". Of course, would also work should future generations do as generation V.  --[[User:ShadowCrush|ShadowCrush]] ([[User talk:ShadowCrush|talk]]) 01:02, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
:::::::I agree with your idea SnorlaxMonster as even though ORAS updates the listing, technically it still qualifies as the "Hoenn Pokédex", and not really a separate or updated region, as it still is the Hoenn region. That will work. Also ShadowCrush might have a good idea as well. -[[User:Tyler53841|Tyler53841]] ([[User talk:Tyler53841|talk]]) 17:07, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
::::::::Hoooooo....Hooooooo. Whoops. Everyone, my sincerest apologies, but I hadn't seen the whole talk thing, and I'm fairly new to all this... Sorry for not looking before I edited that other page. In my defense on part of it, I was looking at pokemon to match my pokedex so I could "catch them all", and I noticed Gallade wasn't on there. As of that point, I make an account and edited that one thing, but then I noticed that it would mess up the whole thing, so I just kept editing on and on. Then as I saved changes, you know, I saw this. I got pretty confused, then I saw the "new Hoenn dex" and the thing about 9 new pokemon. That really freaked me out. I am terribly sorry for not knowing enough to notice this and read it before making drastic changes. I also got really cocky and thought that whomever forgot putting Gallade on there was forgetful. I very much hope it's possible to look in the archives or something similar to change it all back. As of now, I've stopped editing it. [[User:Devour|Devour]] 01:24, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
== Good old Hoenn ==
Pokemon Bank listed Gen III Hoenndex as "Good Old Hoenn", and gen VI Hoenndex as simply "Hoenn", I think that should be mentioned [[User:Asmod96|Asmod96]] ([[User talk:Asmod96|talk]]) 09:19, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
