In {{game3|Ruby and Sapphire|Pokémon Ruby|s}} and their remakes, he first appears in the [[Oceanic Museum]] in Slateport City, trying to steal the {{key|III|Devon Goods}} from [[Captain Stern]]. Later, Team Magma members steal a {{key|III|Meteorite}} from [[Professor Cozmo]] in [[Meteor Falls]], and use it to try to cause [[Mt. Chimney]] to erupt. Then, after [[Magma Admin Courtney|Courtney]]{{sup/3|R}}/[[Tabitha]]{{sup/6|OR}} raids the [[Weather Institute]], Maxie steals the {{DL|Legendary artifacts|Blue}}{{sup/3|R}}/{{DL|Legendary artifacts|Red Orb}}{{sup/6|OR}} from [[Mt. Pyre]]. Later, he and the Team Magma members turn up in Slateport again as Captain Stern announces a discovery he has made about [[Seafloor Cavern|a seafloor cavern]]. Team Magma promptly steals the [[Submarine Explorer 1]] that Captain Stern has built and goes for the Seafloor Cavern to awaken {{p|Groudon}}.  

In {{game|Emerald}}, Maxie tries again to dry Mt. Chimney's lava pool via the meteorite from Meteor Falls, but this time he is looking for Groudon inside the volcano. After this first, unsuccessful attempt, Maxie sends Team Magma members to make [[Team Magma Hideout|a secret hideout]] inside the volcano, where he finally awakens Groudon using the Blue Orb stolen at Mt. Pyre. However he loses the control over the legendary Pokémon. Later Team Magma raids the [[Mossdeep Space Center]], trying to use the rocket fuel to make Mt. Chimney erupt. The protagonist comes just in time to stop him, but as [[Tabitha]] is teaming up with Maxie, {{Steven}} is forced to team up with the player to stop Team Magma. When defeated a third time, Maxie sees the error of his ways, later disbanding Team Magma and attempting to stop Groudon and Kyogre's fight.

Upon Groudon's defeat or capture, the energy amassed in the Cave's jewels emit a green beam skyward, which casts an emerald spectrum of falling lights across the region. Maxie, profoundly affected by the experience, is at first hesitant to accept Archie's offer to start over, believing himself unworthy of redemption. However, Tabitha (in a somewhat brutally blunt moment), while agreeing with Maxie's self-assessment, nonetheless encourages him to at least try, and that atonement is a key part of responsibility, offering his continued loyalty from that point onward. Softly thanking his Admin, Maxie willingly relinquishes the Red Orb to the player, entrusting them with Groudon's Primal power, and departs with Archie to begin their mutual reformation. During the Delta Episode, Maxie is confronted in the Magma Hideout by one of his fromer grunts, [[Zinnia]], who is thieving Key Stones in order to summon and empower {{p|Rayquaza}} with Mega Evolution. When his Key Stone is stolen, he entrusts the player with his Cameruptite to stop Zinnia's apparent rampage. When the world is spared from the meteor, Maxie summons [[Magma Admin Courtney|Courtney]] to his quarters, where she tearfully apologizes for her recklessness. Shocked by the sight of his normally stoic Admin crying, Maxie agrees to forgive her on one condition...she forgive his actions and conduct, recognizing that coupled with the fallout of their plans for Groudon, drove her into despair. He explains his intent to start over the principles of Team Magma, having learned the importance of understanding and working with even those he disagrees with, to which she agrees. He welcomes the player to visit them in their hideout anytime, taking on the role of a friend to them. This friendship even extends to being available to partner with them in the [[Battle Maison]]'s Multi Battle mode.

In ''[[AG098|The Scuffle of Legends]]'', [[Archie]] was very smug because he told Maxie that he had fooled him. Team Aqua sent out {{p|Walrein}}, which defeated the Mightyena that Team Magma sent out. Archie then bonded with the Red Orb just the way Pikachu did in the previous episode, and Maxie and [[Lance]] disguised as a {{tc|Team Magma Grunt}} confronted Archie before this happened.

{{p|Kyogre}} was first seen in the containment chamber of Team Magma's ship. Aqua Admin [[Shelly]] sets it free by increasing the humidity levels in the chamber so it could revive itself. She successfully does so causing Kyogre to break free from the ship. It is seen with Team Aqua afterwards. In its next appearance, Kyogre is seen fighting with Groudon and later lost to it, thus causing the orbs in Archie and Pikachu to separate. Kyogre was able to rescue Ash and Pikachu after the battle was done. In the end, it returns to its hidden location at the bottom of the sea.

Maxie is one of the two main antagonists of the {{chap|Ruby & Sapphire}}. He leads Team Maxie in their quest to awaken Ground to expand the land. Team Magma clashes with Team Aqua, who aim to awaken Kyogre to expand the land.  

In the {{chap|Emerald}}, it is revealed that Maxie and Archie were rescued from the electrical sphere by [[Sird]]. Sird reveals that Maxie and Archie's bodies are breaking down due to the effect of letting Kyogre and Groudon possess them. She offers a suit of armor to one of the villains that can slow down the process of their decaying, but only to whomever defeats the other in battle. Archie manages to defeat Maxie and wins the armor, this becoming the armored man, [[Guile Hideout]].

In the {{chap|Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire}}, Maxie and Archie are revealed to still be alive. They travel to the Kanto region and find {{adv|Bill}}, who had obtained the shattered remains of the Red and Blue Orbs from Team Rocket in the {{chap|FireRed & LeafGreen}}. They steal the shards, which have now regenerated back into their forms as Orbs and steal his boat to return to Hoenn. Once they arrive, they are attacked by {{adv|Red}} and {{adv|Green}}, two Kanto Pokédex holders that are friends with Bill. Red and Green battle the two to take back the Red and Blue Orbs from them. When Maxie and Archie reveal they can use Mega Evolution, the two Pokédex holders counter by using their own Mega-Evolved Pokémon.

|desc={{p|Camerupt}} is Maxie's main Pokémon. It was first sent out to battle Archie's {{p|Walrein}}. Despite the type disadvantage, the battle ended in a tie due to use of both Pokémon's Abilities. At the Seafloor Cavern, it was used alongside Archie's Walrein to battle Ruby's [[Mumu]] and Sapphire's [[Chic]]. Although the Pokédex holders fought with powerful moves, Camerupt and Walrein emerged the victors, but left their Trainers open to be attacked. In the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire chapter, it was revealed to have gained the ability to [[Mega Evolution|Mega Evolve]].

Camerupt's known moves are {{m|Eruption}} and {{m|Overheat}}, and his Ability is {{a|Magma Armor}}.}}

|desc={{p|Swellow}} was sent out at Lilycove City, where it was used to take Maxie away after he and Archie called a truce.

|desc={{p|Groudon}} is a super-ancient Pokémon that clashed with Kyogre in the past. Team Magma sought to reawaken it to achieve their goal in expanding the land. With the Red Orb, Maxie controlled Groudon after it was awakened. The prolonged use of the Red Orb instead leads to Maxie being controlled by Groudon instead. After the Orbs are removed from Maxie and Archie's bodies, they move to Ruby and Sapphire instead. With the power of the Orbs and Rayquaza, Groudon moves to Mt. Chimney to return to its slumber. In the thirteenth chapter, Groudon is awakened from its slumber by {{p|Hoopa}}, who was manipulated by Blaise and Amber to summon the super-ancient Pokémon so they can achieve Primal Reversion.

Groudon's known moves are {{m|Rock Slide}}, and {{m|Thunder}}, and its Ability is {{a|Drought}}.}}
