Route 12 is divided apart by a body of water, requiring {{m|Surf}} to get across and thus preventing the {{player}} from advancing past it until they've beaten [[Korrina]]. Near the Shalour City [[gate]] stands a {{tc|Pokémon Breeder}}, who, after the player has earned the {{badge|Rumble}}, will give them his {{p|Lapras}} as a {{pkmn2|gift}}. The other side of the route is decorated by fields of grass and yellow flowers.

Baa de Mer Ranch is a ranch dedicated solely for {{p|Skiddo}}. The player can ride a Skiddo to access areas beyond otherwise unsurpassable ledges. A part of the ranch fence is broken down, allowing the player to ride Skiddo on the main route as well. While riding a Skiddo, the player cannot encounter [[wild Pokémon]], interact with NPCs or [[Signpost|signs]], use [[field move]]s, or use items like the [[Dowsing Machine]]. Skiddo cannot be ridden outside of the route. It can be dismounted at any point, except for [[tall grass]] or {{DL|Tall grass|flowers}}.
