:Okay, tested in Internet Explorer, and it seems to work normally there, as & was properly converted to %26. Seems the issue only applies to certain browsers, like Safari. Berrenta (talk) 18:15, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
::Kogoro updated the code, but because of where it is, it's very slow to update. Browser choice has nothing to do with the issue at all, simply the javascript that encoded those links had failed to 'escape' the page title, and with the limited knowledge of javascript among active staff it took us a while to figure out how to fix it. Also, something to note is that it does not escape the characters @*/ and + The only of which should matter is the rarely used +. <span class="sc"><span style="color:#2D4B98;">Werdnae</span></span> <small><span style="color:#009000;">(talk)</span></small> 20:16, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Names of Pokemon games in general
Hey! Just wanted to bring this giant post I just typed elsewhere to your attention, instead of retyping the same info over again: http://vgmdb.net/forums/showpost.php?p=56272&postcount=3
In short, Japan stopped using "Pocket Monsters" outside of the katakana when R/S dropped, and at the same time Nintendo as a whole started up a consistent branding scheme (actually I'm not entirely sure how it scales to everything else but) that most people don't seem to notice (only with X/Y has this been changed (for the better)). Because of this, I believe we (and Wikipedia, and everywhere else) needs to rethink how we handle the game titles. There's a reason things like the albums refer to themselves as "Pokémon", and it's not to be "import friendly".
If I've come across as a bit brusque, I apologize, but I find it a bit silly that this has gone unnoticed for a decade! Despatche (talk) 08:26, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

:I get your point that in Japan the English name of the games is "Pokémon Ruby" etc. after RS, but I'm not entirely sure what you're suggesting. The italic English text next to Japanese names is supposed to be a translation of the text, and there is a katakana difference between "Pokémon" and "Pocket Monsters", so they are translated as such where appropriate. It is important to note that the Japanese text does say "Pocket Monsters", as in Japan the main series is officially the "Pocket Monsters series" . Also, it's worth noting that Pokémon Stadium does the exact opposite of what you mentioned: the katakana says "Pokémon", but the Latin text says "Pocket Monsters" (for all three games). --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 11:15, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

::Ah, sorry. I'm suggesting that we should use "Pokémon" as that transliteration for these later games instead of "Pocket Monsters", because that's what Nintendo does... we do the same for Pokemon themselves, for example. The trick is that you really want to avoid transliterating if you can help it; you can produce multiple official titles out of what looks like one. Basically, what's happening is that you have a katakana (here, anyway) title that is always used within itself, and a Roman-based title that is always used within itself--"進撃の巨人" and "Attack on Titan" is similar--two completely different titles used within the same context to refer to the same work (at the same time). That page may say "ポケットモンスターシリーズ", but you can bet it would have used "Pokémon" if they could help it.
::And yeah, with the Stadium case, those games were part of the old branding, which used "Pokemon" whenever it pleased. Technically, "Pokémon" is actually part of a "phrase shortening" trend that's pretty common in Japanese ("Famicom"'s a great example, and this is also why the term is even "Pokémon" to begin with), so it was occasionally used by Nintendo wherever they felt; Pokemon Puzzle Challenge became "Pokemon no Panepon" (heh, "Panepon" is another example of that shortening, being short for Panel de Pon) for its Japanese release, for example.
::(Fun fact: technically the katakana isn't actually "Pocket Monsters" transliterated; there's a common tendency (it's totally random!) to remove the final S/Z sound at the end of plurals in these transliterations, so it's really "Pocket Monster". "ポケットモンスターシリーズ" is a great example of with and without, in fact. Platinum is similar; the katakana actually reads "platina" (a word usually used to refer to alloys of platinum) and at least one Nintendo website uses this.) Despatche (talk) 06:03, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
:::I think I get your point, but the problem is that the "English name in Japan" is not an accurate translation of the actual text. Pokémon names are only alternate romanizations, not alternate phrases entirely. Pokémon and Pocket Monsters are used distinctly, so the translation should accurately reflect this. In your Attack on Titan example, were we to have an article on it (it's not relevant to Pokémon, so we shouldn't), it would be formatted as
::::Attack on Titan (Japanese: 進撃の巨人 Advancing Titans)
:::However, I do take your point that it would be useful to note the official Asian-English names of the games, but the problem is that in the case of Pearl (for example), we have ポケットモンスター officially as Pokémon, but nothing for パール. (Asian-English is a term used in Yu-Gi-Oh, so I'm borrowing it here for clarity; there may be a better term, but it will do for the circumstances.) For the record, platinum in Japanese comes from the Spanish word "platina" rather than the English one, thus why it is formatted as such (or at least, that's what I remember being told by my high-school Japanese teacher). --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 11:50, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
::::1. "Pokémon" is most definitely a distinct title from "ポケモン", even. Titles are not about meaning, not ever; they are always about physical structure. It's pretty obvious that there are three different titles used (for whatever reasons there may be) to refer to the same work: "Pokémon", "ポケモン", and "ポケットモンスター". What else is there to it? (As a sidenote, I disprove of the preference for translations, specifically over romaji... where can I open a discussion about that?)
::::2. That sounds like a pretty good case for not having romaji at all, doesn't it? Fortunately, Nintendo at least provides "Platinum" here (nearly every single Japanese page on the game uses it), and likely provides the same for the other games (at the least, they outright use "Pokémon <version>" on every soundtrack album since Ruby and Sapphire's). == Suggestion ==

I know we changed the Pokemon artwork images to a square ratio for practical reasons, not aesthetic ones, but now that they're the standard, other articles with Sugimori images — Valerie is the one I noticed, but most humans' articles, in fact — look abnormal because they break this new standard. Can we just apply the square requirement to all official art used in infoboxes so things match aesthetically? (I know this is totally not a priority and thus will absolutely not happen at least until the XY info is all put up, but I thought I'd suggest it to be implemented at some point in the future.) Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 23:50, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
:This was actually something we bought up whilst making the decision to square the images of Pokemon. With the character art a lot of the pictures are a fair bit taller then what they are wide, whereas with Pokemon, the difference is to a much less significant degree. As a result, when the character images are forced to comply with the infobox a significant amount of quality is loss. --Spriteit (talk) 06:11, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

:"Sprites" in the traditional sense don't really exist anymore; Pokémon in Gen VI are represented by fully in-motion 3D models with no single "still image" to really take as a sprite. That's probably why in the Evolution section of any Pokémon page, you'll see official artwork instead of the current sprite like there used to be. The Sprites section may end up being something that only goes up to Gen V now. As for the icons? I saw some Gen VI icons around a few days ago but they're since been removed, apparently. No clue why. --<span style="color:#6900FF"><b>KiANGLO</b></span> (<span style="color:#cc00aa">TALK</span>) 22:57, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Volcanion, Hoopa, and Diancie
So I'm sure most of you have heard about the three legendary event Pokemon recently found in the coding for X and Y. So I want to ask: Why do we not have pages for them?

Obviously we don't have any info yet, and I understand that, but we had a page for Trevenant long before we even knew his English name. Couldn't we make a page for them and not have any info for them (even PokeDex number)? I know they're real, I went into the X and Y GTS and saw for my self. So I think we need pages for them.

Opinions? (And before you give them, please read my ENTIRE post. I've gotten way too many posts that have logic that I already broke in my explanation. And if you don't think my explanation is accurate, tell me why. Cuz it gets annoying when its just "NO WE DONT HAVE ANY INFO IDIOT. YOUR STUPID."

About the "characteristics" of types...
I noticed that within each page on the individual Pokémon types, there is a 'Characteristics' section, which describes both defensive and offensive characteristics. However, is this all really necessary? Firstly, this seems like Smogon standards, and shouldn't belong on a site that discusses only facts. Second, each 'Characteristics' section says pretty much the same thing. "It's good overall." This is just my opinion, but I don't think it's really that needed. Zorocario (talk) 02:13, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
:I agree. It's opinionated and, in my experience, tends to attract editors who (A) add more egregiously opinionated material that just has to be removed and (B) are especially unfamiliar with our standards of notability. I'd love to see the sections axed. All of the important unopinionated information in them is already given in the type effectiveness and average stat sections on the same pages. Not meaning to be rude when I say this, but it seems that you didn't notice the part where I said that I would let Zelda wiki know the next time I was able to get onto the site. Also, I have noticed that there are a few other postings in this section, whether visible or archived, where people have stated problems for NIWA and not just bulbapedia here and they seem to not have been reprimanded or asked to go to the other site to report it. again not meaning to be rude, sorry if it came across that way. Would you happen to know when the technical problems with Zelda wiki will be fixed?
Lordofninjas1 (talk) 16:41, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
:Right, but I suggested using the Zelda Universe forums, which while affiliated with Zelda Wiki are at a different domain, so will not necessarily be down at the same time. I wasn't trying to reprimand you for posting that here, just suggested a better place to ask; I'm the only person active here who is staff on Zelda Wiki, so you're unlikely to get an answer unless I see the message (which I did in this case). The other section about NIWA on this page is actually about the NIWA links on the front page (I only glanced at the previous archive, but it looks like most messages about NIWA are too).
:To your main question, I don't know how long Zelda Wiki is going to be having technical issues, but at the moment it is online. --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 07:05, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

BulbaNewsNow
I don't have a Twitter, so excuse me for posting here rather than commenting on the tweet itself, but I would like to question the logic behind retweeting the post about the unconfirmed new Pokémon.
While I know that it's possible it's real, what distinguishes this from the hundreds of fakes out there? This one doesn't really have anything going for it in particular. It's a low-quality drawing of a Pokémon allegedly shown in addition to the one we've all heard about - there's no reason everyone else would have reported exclusively on the larger form if this was actually shown, is there? - and the poster isn't even sure what it looked like, exactly, and is saying that "people" (without specifying who and without anyone actually backing the poster up) seem to think one attempt at drawing it is more accurate than the others, with exactly one person claiming it exists and nobody else even mentioning it as far as I can tell.
Is there a particular reason this fake should hold any amount of credence whatsoever? I just think it's a bit odd that, on a site that refused to even report on Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion until Diancie was revealed and very recently for the others because a staff member couldn't get them himself or herself, actually retweeting - and showing everyone who views the main page - something like this with only one source, even less information and only a low-quality drawing to show after denying the existence of Pokémon recorded in actual videos from a few sources, this particular post as if it should be considered any more believable than any other fake is... odd. And rather inconsistent with past standards. Why are we posting this on the main page after refusing to even mention much more believable information in the past before that was confirmed? (I know we label this as UNCONFIRMED. We didn't mention any of the aforementioned Pokémon even with such disclaimers. We're being inconsistent.) EpicDeino (talk) 16:28, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
:This was an apparent new Pokémon shown in a teaser at the end of M18. These are not uncommon (Victini and Trevenant were revealed in the same way). Multiple trusted Japanese movie-goers have confirmed that such a creature appeared in the teaser. The larger creature was shown in CoroCoro (and I had thought it was also shown after the movie, at the pre-screenings, but maybe this was not the case). It's worth noting that the same sources that reported the CoroCoro creature also reported this.
:The poster is someone who personally attended the movie and drew it from memory. Since they couldn't pause a cinematic movie (and as far as I can tell, didn't draw the picture while it was on-screen), it is entirely reasonable that they cannot precisely remember what they saw.
:It's also worth pointing out that while associated, BulbaNewsNOW and Bulbapedia are managed separately, so something that consensus hasn't determined to be reliable on Bulbapedia may be considered reliable for BNN to report. Additionally, this particular piece of news was even labelled as unconfirmed (much to some people's chagrin, since it is quite clear this is legitimate).
:Also, not mentioning Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion was because they had been discovered by datamining and had not been officially revealed (on the other hand, this creature has been officially revealed, in a sense). While I disagreed with this stance, I understood it. Bulbapedia did not deny their existence after the community had accepted them (when we only had screenshots of the names on the GTS, there was some skepticism, but I think that was entirely reasonable). Even so, since Bulbapedia does mention Volcanion now, it would not be inconsistent anyway. --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 16:53, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
::I knew about the larger form , but I wasn't aware that this was confirmed by the same moviegoers (or that there were more than one person backing up the "blob" to begin with!) as that because I had heard literally nothing about the "blob" until days after the larger form was shown in Corocoro. (In fairness, I also hadn't heard about the larger form before Corocoro, because everything I saw just said "Zygarde" and didn't even mention that it WAS a larger form, so I guess if people knew about that in advance, then that must back this up.) I was mainly suspicious because obviously the person had at least looked at it, and if it was as simple and mainly featureless as they claimed, it should be easy to remember better than they seemed to. But anyway, if they were revealed by the same people at the same time, then I guess that answers my question, so thanks. ^^ (And I didn't actually know that BNN is run by different people. That certainly explains it, haha. Good to know for the future.) EpicDeino (talk) 17:20, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
:::The larger creature was first revealed in CoroCoro. You are correct that everyone assumed it was a Zygarde form though, which—although likely—has not been confirmed. These things weren't necessarily revealed by the same people at the same time either; CoroCoro officially released a few days before the movie's official launch (but after the pre-screenings, which probably didn't show the teaser), and the Japanese people who watched the movie aren't necessarily the same as the person who uploaded the scan of the CoroCoro page.
:::As for BNN being run by separate people, all the people who run it (including me, the official coordinator of it) have ties to Bulbapedia, and they're both part of Bulbagarden, so it's not entirely independent. However, the people who make editorial decisions about BNN are quite different to those who make editorial decisions about Bulbapedia. --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 17:58, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
:::Addition note: The large creature from CoroCoro also appears in the teaser. I failed to make that clear. --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 18:13, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
::::I'm actually more confused by that post than I was before, so while I believe the Pokémon exists now because Ihave seen multiple other sources backing it up elsewhere, I'm going to respond to that post anyway. XD
::::"The larger creature was first revealed in CoroCoro." You said in your previous post "It's worth noting that the same sources that reported the CoroCoro creature also reported this," so I'm kind of confused as to what happened. o.o Was the Zygarde-looking thing revealed by the same people who posted this, or was CoroCoro the first source that mentioned the Zygarde-looking thing? (CoroCoro obviously didn't post this, so it's not possible for both to be the case.)
::::Also, I said that people were saying it was a Zygarde (as in not even a form, but just acting like it was a normal Zygarde), giving an example of me obviously being out of the loop if we apparently did already know about the Zygarde form before Corocoro (which apparently we didn't if your second post is right instead of your first?).
::::The BNN thing makes sense, though, at least. XD EpicDeino (talk) 15:59, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
:::::Ah, okay, I get where you got confused. I meant all the same secondary sources who considered the CoroCoro page credible also considered this teaser credible, and both reported on it. I didn't mean that the information came from the same place. The giant creature people believe to be Zygarde was first seen in CoroCoro, but now has also been seen in the teaser (which did not air until after the official release of CoroCoro). --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 17:24, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
::::::That makes sense. Okay, thanks! ^^ EpicDeino (talk) 20:10, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

"Genderless" vs "gender unknown"
I'm pretty sure some person in some building in Unova or Kalos said something to the effect of "Pokémon have genders, like humans. They can be male, female, or even have unknown genders!" If I'm remembering correctly, that would mean that "gender unknown" is a more official term than "genderless". To be clear, I'm referring to gender (e.g., in the sentence "Cryogonal is the only genderless Pokémon, other than Mew, that can learn Attract."), not Egg Group. Thoughts? :Pokédex 3D Pro and the Pokédex on Pokemon.com use "unknown" under the gender field for Pokémon like Kyurem. <span style="color:black">~</span>Enervation 18:33, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Is this a glitch, or are the forums down? If it is something on my end, how do I fix my connection to BGMf? --BlisseyandtheAquaJets (talk) 21:56, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
:Someone else noticed it too. I had trouble before too, but currently it seems like I'm able to get aruond, albeit slowly. For some reason, the first thread I tried to open seemed to time out into a "Database error" page (below), but a few minutes later, I was able to see it fine.
