A Marquis (Japanese: マーキス Marquis) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that debuted in the Battle Chateau of the Generation VI games Pokémon X and Y. The male player character can become a Marquis after defeating enough Trainers in the Battle Chateau and, along with its female counterpart class Marchioness, is the next noble rank held by both him and trainers of the Battle Chateau after Earl.

Opponent Marquises maintain parties of two Pokémon. Marquises that are not also Gym Leaders will have Pokémon at level 35 if no Writ of Challenge is issued.Marquises that are also Gym Leaders will have Pokémon at level 40 if no Writ of Challenge is issued, unless the player has advanced to the rank of Duke or Duchess or has defeated the Champion. If the player has advanced in rank or defeated the Champion, they will have Pokémon at level 50 if no Writ of Challenge is issued.

Appearance

Marquises can appear as a Rich Boy, a Monsieur, a Butler or any of the male Gym Leaders of Kalos.
