:And while it's true that it doesn't use the exact word "quit" in there, it's pretty clear that's what's being implied especially when past episodes have made it clear that you can't engage in a Pokemon Journey while you're a Gym Leader (in fact, such a restraint was made explicit as early as [[EP005|Showdown at Pewter City]] from both Flint AND Brock, and I think Candace and Zoey both alluded to this restraint in that episode of Diamond and Pearl.). Besides, no one talks like that about a position they simply were on temporary leave from (I sure don't). That sounds more like the kind of talk a guy gives when he's about to quit his job for a better one. A good contrast would be her reappearance in Alola (second one) where she explicitly stated that a major part of why she went to Alola besides visiting Ash was to take a break from the swarms of Gym Challengers that were arriving. Either way, she definitely never mentioned the gym at all in JN147, much less resuming gym duties (the most we got was Brock eagerly telling Misty to say hi to her sisters for him before Croagunk toxic stabbed him), and considering most instances she either explicitly mentions she has to resume gym duties when she departs (Mirage Kingdom Arc, the Kanto, Alola arc) or otherwise its made very clear she had to resume Gym Duties (beginning of Battle Frontier where Daisy basically called Misty and threatened to hand badges out again if she didn't return, Mastermind as well since it's made explicit she was only there due to being invited alongside Oak and was most likely going to return to the Gym afterward), the fact that she makes absolutely NO mention of gym duties at all means she most likely wasn't going back to being a Gym Leader that time. Let's not forget, Brock also returned to Pewter City in the same episode, and he's repeatedly stated to no longer be a Gym Leader and thus obviously wasn't going to be resuming gym duties.
