I haven't even watched the event story yet, just skipped through it so I could unlock all the battles. So I'm not sure what kids you're referring to, I'll get back to you on that once I've done the event story. It's really easy to tell the difference between horizontal and vertical grid expansions, though - vertical grid expansions are for Poké Fairs only, and they include tiles that are unlocked at move level 4 or 5. Horizontal grid expansions can be for anyone, and they include tiles that can be unlocked at move level 1. All the recent grid expansions were vertical expansions. My previous rule of thumb has been that, like you said, if they have the exact same partner Pokémon, it's meant to be the playable character and not just a generic background NPC. However, with the Poké Kids specifically, I feel like it makes sense that character who dresses up like Eevee to use an Eevee, and a character who dresses up like Pikachu to wear a Pikachu. I've been a little hesitant to say that any female Poké Kid with a male Eevee is Eve because male is typically the "default" appearance; the Eevee Egg event featured battles against a female Poké Kid with a male Eevee who was not Eve, for example. However, a male Poké Kid with a female Pikachu involves a deliberate change to the "default" appearance, so I'm more inclined to think it's meant to be Petey specifically. That's why I counted the male Poké Kid with a female Pikachu who appeared in this year's AFD event as an appearance for Petey, while I haven't counted the female Poké Kid with a male Eevee who appears in Penny's sync pair story as an appearance for Eve. In the case of Rika's event, the male Poké Kid seems pretty likely to be Petey, and it'd be silly for the male Poké Kid to be Petey and the female one is just a generic kid, so I'm OK counting them both (and I plan to add the quotes to their respective quote pages). Now that I'm saying it out loud, though, I feel like maybe I'm being a little too cautious, and I should just give Eve the appearances for Penny's sync pair story and the AFD event too... :::::::::::::After sleeping on it, yeah, I think I'm good with counting the Poké Kid in Penny's sync pair story as Eve—the biggest reason I didn't add it at the time was because Eve hadn't been officially released yet, but they did the same thing with Grusha (giving him a cameo in an event prior to his official debut) so it'd make sense for this to be the same situation. I don't think I wanna count the AFD event as an Eve appearance, though, since the female Poké Kid who appears in that event isn't shown with a partner Pokémon.
